We tried really hard to babyproof our house, but somehow, a couple of them still got in.

I'm convinced some canned items will be around long after man disappears from the planet. When I was in the Army and we still had C-rations, I saw soldiers eat canned peaches that were packaged before they were born.

Yikes, eating something that was packaged before I was born is a scary thought. But then again, I am considerably older than many soldiers, I think.

I am just starting to build a stock pile. This is great to know as I build it so that I don't over buy. I am printing it out and adding it to my price book!

expiration date question!

Food Basics is selling the humongous Tropicana OJs for $2.18 on manager special. I haven't seen a good price for OJ in the longest time. I bought one. Their sell by date is two days from now. I want to get another to stockpile.

What do y'all think?

I basically "shop" from shelves in my garage. That way when I bring in new stuff it goes to the garage (organized be expiration date). When I get low in the kitchen I bring some in (picking the soonest to expire). Things never stay organized in my kitchen and stuff gets shuffled around alot. If I only keep 1-2 of each item it lessens the chaos.

HI Shelf Life Question

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that lists the shelf life for items; canned goods, toothpaste, dishsoap, etc?

This info is becoming important now that Im acquiring so much stuff, I wouldn't want to see it go to waste because it expires.

I don't know the shelf life on most stuff. I do know Vienna Sausages have a long life! I bought some a long time ago (2 years?) and they don't expire til almost 2010! LOL
