Can you spare a square? Toilet paper sizing

Here's our new Toilet Paper Sizing Chart.

There are a couple different ways to compare the prices of toilet paper depending on whether you think it's just the number of sheets that is important or if it's the actual square footage that matters to you. Some people find that the 2-ply tissue lasts twice as long as 1-ply.

The blue items below are information found in the sizing chart. If you think the number of plies is unimportant, just drop the last term from the equation.

The price per 1000 sheets =
(price per package) / (rolls per package) * (rolls per 1000 sheets) / (plies)

The price per 100 sq ft =
(price per package) / (rolls per package) * (rolls per 100 sq ft) / (plies)

EXAMPLE:

Product 1: Scott Extra Soft, 4-pack, mega rolls is on sale for $2.50. You have a $1 coupon.

Product 2: Charmin Ultra Strong, 9-pack, large rolls is on sale for $3.99. You have a $1 coupon.

To compare these two based on price...

BASED ON SHEETS:

Product 1: The price per 1000 sheets = $1.50 / 4 * 2 = $0.75

Product 2: The price per 1000 sheets = $2.99 / 9 * 6.5 = $2.16 or $2.99 / 9 * 6.5 / 2 = $1.08 if you think 2-ply lasts twice as long.

Product 1, the Scott Extra Soft is a better deal.

BASED ON SQ FT:

Product 1: The price per 100 sq ft = $1.50 / 4 * 1.6 = $0.57

Product 2: The price per 100 sq ft = $2.99 / 9 * 5.5 = $1.83 or $2.99 / 9 * 5.5 / 2 = $0.91 if you think 2-ply lasts twice as long.

Product 1, the Scott Extra Soft is a better deal.

If you have a brand you'd like me to add to the chart, just give me the following: Brand and type (e.g. Cottonelle Aloe & E), name of the size of the roll (e.g. mega), sheets per roll, plies, width of sheet, and length of sheet.

I didn't find it. I collected information from toilet paper packages at various stores. I put them into a spreadsheet and wrote spreadsheet formulas to calculate rolls/sheet and rolls/area.

I think it's awesome. Toilet paper has totally gotten out of control lately with all the double rolls, triple rolls, extra soft, medium rough, etc, etc...

I don't want all the gimmicks, I just want something that'll get the job done, and I'd rather not pay a small fortune for it.
