I hate it when the box flips.
I cut the package in half. I normally use 6 at a time anyway.

Since I'm the Official Handler And Dispenser Of The Eggs, I go from the left side to the right side, after you've put the carton on the counter, of course, and if by some strange chance, I take an egg out randomly if I'm crackin' 'em fast, I line them back up with the empty spots on the left. I also need to have all of my light switches pointing in the same direction....correlation to the egg symmetry thing...hmmm??

I'm lucky to get farm fresh eggs, delivered no less, and when my egg lady came today, she gave me a mixed dozen+ because the hens are moulting (so producing less eggs), with 4 "normal" sized eggs and 10 eggs bantam sized ("baby eggs", smaller than regular eggs and so cute!!).....my first thought...."Well, we better eat those big ones first so they're not messing up the left to right visual symmetry of movement (at least all the big ones were on the left)....Hoo-Boy, I'm an egg carton freak !!

ETA: just read JustMama's post
"We have chickens and right now probably have no less than 30-40 eggs in our fridge, plus some to gather. They are just in plastic baskets, According to age as best as we can determine."
My egg lady puts the date on hers with pencil....I love it....I have an OCD egg lady!!

LOL!! I did the same thing. I'm thinking, "Okay how else would you removed your eggs from the carton? You can't very well just dump them!" LOL!! Too funny! Glad I'm not the only one that thought about it that way.

I've been trying to move my shelves around and place the eggs in various spots, but they still seem to get too cold. My fridge is set on the line where they recommend it.

Anyway, I take mine out on the ends to keep it balanced. DH cracks the eggs and puts the empty shells back in the carton (anyone else do this?!), which sometimes makes me think we have more eggs than we actually do. (and it's not really healthy to do that either) It's annoying, but I've even caught myself doing this a few times. Weird how some people's habits rub off on you.

We usually leave the cracked shell in the carton too. Not too sure why. I guess because my mom did it when I was growing up... LOL!

Wow, y'all just made me realize how NOT OCD I am. I really don't care. I do, typically, try to take from one end first, and make sure to put the empty end towards the back of the fridge. I got that from my mom I think, she always said she did that b/c that way when you go to grab the carton in a hurry, you have the "solid" end and it can only get lighter as you pull it out, not heavier-which makes them tumble or makes you crush the carton trying to catch them. So I do that, but it's not a huge deal to me. I really don't care, we go through so many eggs anyway between my baking and dh's eating 1/2 doz. for breakfast every morning (and for those of you who are following me from thread to thread, yes...he really does eat BOTH a serving bowl's worth of oatmeal AND 1/2 doz. eggs each morning, lol).

We always do it in a zig-zag, the first column from the top row, second column we take the bottom one, third back to the top, etc.

I used to just start at one end and work my way to the other end but when you get down to less than half a dozen, the carton becomes heavy on the end and if I take the carton out of the fridge it feels like I might drop it because of the uneven weight distribution.
I now start at one end and then the other and use the eggs in the middle last.

This thread is too funny!

I start at the end that has the date printed on it and work to the other end. I then place the carton in the fridge by the heavy end first (slides in easier for me) with the date showing out.
