    Default Major Disaster!

I've been trying to build a freezer stockpile all summer. Buying the things we use more of in the fall/winter. I'm returning to school this semester and not working. This is a huge deal I work 3 jobs so major cut backs for my family of 5.
Well we went camping for the weekend last wk and the freezer was not closed all the way ( I hate to say it but I think it was me that left it open). We we came home EVERYTHING and I mean everything was a loss! 4 days in a hot garage (temps in the mid to high 80's) I was crying thinking of all the money that I was throwing away and the 6 plus months of deal searching plus making stock and sauce...
I guess it's time to start over again so if you see someone crying in the freezer section give her a hug it just might be me! Moral of the story check the freezer door before you leave for a trip!

I am sorry. A freezer alarm might help.

I will gladly accept a hug (and maybe a glass of wine!). Belinda2 my H said the same thing but I wasn't sure. Would we hear it in the house?

I have a freezer alarm on the deep freeze in our basement. I don't think I would hear it on the first story unless the doors to the unfinished area and the basement were open. However, it's better than having nothing! Unfortunately since OP was actually out of town the alarm would not have helped. Others have mentioned a freezer lock, etc. Not sure how that works but if your freezer door is prone to this, it's an idea. At our old house our freezer door never seemed to shut right--the floor was not level so maybe that was why. Anyway, this same thing happened to me a couple times, so I really feel your pain OP. I cried and cried.

I usually check the lights, doors, unplug everything ect... before we leave but this time we were already 3hrs late and in a rush. Oh well live and learn. I don't think I would hear the alarm in the house (or 3 states away in this case) but I might look into one if the price is right. Cintinative- how long did it take to rebuild your stock?
