    Default Advice on shelving/Florida help

I am moving to a house!!!!! It has a side storage room! I am SO excited to have a place to put my stockpile! But I need help on what kind of shelves to get? Keep in mind though that we will move in the next few years as we do very often so they can't be made into the wall.

Also, I'm in NE FL what should I NOT keep out there due to the heat.

    TIA

I would like to know the same thing. I live in Central Florida and we are also moving to our new house next month and we'll have a HUGE two car garage (no A/C). I would like to put shelves in there and store some of my stockpile in it. I will however have a large pantry in my already to large laundry room ( hubby's building it with the extra space ) for food and such.

I don't live in Fl but here in IL I find that a stockpile in the garage doesn't work well with the extremes we have in heat/cold. Also, it tends to get buggy in there so it has never worked for me to use my garage for stockpile.

Well I was hoping to use some of our garage to store some things in storage containers. I'm just wondering what will stay good through hot spells. I know garbage bags, ziplock, aluminum foil things like that but what about laundry detergent, fabric softner, toothpaste, etc? Can you store toilet paper, paper towels, napkins in there original sealed bags in the garage? We are cutting a couple holes in the garage and putting in automatic exhaust fans, so when the garage reaches say 100 they'll turn on. Or should we lower the fan turn on temp. to something else?

What I found with paper products was they got a musty smell in them due to the humidity. I believe you could do ziploc bags and trash bags though. Cleaning and laundry products do get effected by the heat but I don't know if it effects the quality. Perhaps someone else can jump in. I avoid my garage for the most part as a stockpile area since I have room indoors.

Interesting question as I am relatively new to Texas from Colorado. Here, I would store nothing in my garage as it gets super hot. I forgot to take my purse out of the car today and when I got it tonite, it was hot. My lipstick wasn't melted, but super soft.

My advice is let your DH have the garage and side area. Find a place inside to store your stuff.

Now that being said, Texas is hotter than Florida. But the humidity in Florida has got to be about equal. I grew up in Florida. I still wouldn't put my stuff in the garage there. Just my opinion. Good luck with your move!!!

Okay, I just saw that there are 2 people from Florida asking this question. The one in NE Florida is in a much better spot. I can't answer the question. It may not be as hot there, but I don't know. The one in Central Florida (I am from Indialantic which is on the beach near Melbourne), I would not use my garage for stockpiling. It is too hot.
