re: How To Save Big On Clothes For The Entire Family

I found an independent shoe store that is generally $10 for trendy and classic womens shoes for $10 and mens dress/trendy/casual shoes for $20. If anyone is ever in the Southern CA area, it's in Hawthorne, on Hawthorne Blvd, between El Segundo Blvd and Imperial Hwy. The address is 12345 Hawthorne Blvd. It's about 10 mins from LAX, very close to the police station. Parking is somewhat limited.

HTH someone. I just got the prettiest orange suede flat peep toes. They came in black, too. Just wish they were nationwide!

Halloween re: How To Save Big On Clothes For The Entire Family

In Duluth, GA there is an outlet mall called Discover Mills and my mom gets all my little sister's clothes from there. They have a Limited Too outlet and a Children's Place outlet. My mom could walk out of Children's Place with 20 items and only pay $35. A lot of times everything would be less than $2 once you took off all the discounts AND used the 15% off coupon they mail out all the time. At limited too, my mom took advantage of their deep clearance. My little sister would get a lot of trendy clothes for only ~$4 an item. Also, they send out coupons frequently and they have their Too Bucks promotion.

I used to buy ALL of my dress clothes at the K&G Outlet store at Discover Mills, but it went out of business. Some deals I've gotten are black dress skirts many styles 3/$10, button up dress shirts 3/$10, suits $19.99...all of these were name brand! I loved this store. I was so upset when it closed!!

Now, I find that I can get really good deals for me at New York & Company. They are always sending a ton of coupons out and I have their credit card. Their sales and clearance are always really good. Last time I was in there, I bought ~$500 worth of clothes for $116. Of course, $75 of that was on a giftcard!!

I also shop at consignment/thrift stores. There are quite a few around here in the nicer parts of town where name brand clothes are dropped off. It's not uncommon to find stuff with tags!

I love clearance racks and I also shop at Goodwill Outlet here in Hillsboro, OR. They sell used clothes per pound. I found many new clothes from the bin and I ended up paying for 10 lbs of clothes for $13!
    Can't beat that!

Well...there is a store called Platos Closet, and i would find some REALLY good deals on the clearance clothing for me and my hubby. Every once in a while, they would have a sale where you could get as much as you could fit in a plastic shopping bag for 15.00. One time I managed to get 7 pairs of jeans(3 with tags still...all retailed at over $30), 18 shirts and a pair of brand new jeans for him (with tag...retailed at $89).

I only buy clothes at Goodwill, Value Village or from our local church thrift stores. The kids go through growth spurts so often that there's no need whatsoever for me to pay full price for name-brand, designer clothes when I can get them for a fraction of the cost! I'll even go to Seattle's Goodwill, especially after Christmas and at the beginning of each season... it's amazing what people throw away!

Look for public consignment sales in your area. We have two each year that I partcipate in and they are only a few weeks apart from each other. I just finished the one in first and made over $200 in one weekend. What did not sell was brought home and will go to the next sale next week. What does not sell from that goes to charity. It's a great way to make money, declutter, and not have to have a yard sale at my home (no weather worries, no strangers at my house, etc.)

We don't do a lot of new clothes but this thread made me say YAY I am not insane!! When my kids were younger I lived in MA where I grew up and all my family is and I had tubs and tubs of clothes. My dad has a 3 br house to himself and he let me use one as a storage room, I swear I had 2 dozen huge totes full of all different size/sex clothing that had been given to me by friends. 2 friends had girls, one 2 years older and the other 4 years older, both always had the latest and greatest and both gave me everything. One of them had a boy 4 years older and then my stepson is 5 years older than my son and both gave me everything. I just packed it away and went "shopping" at my dads with the change of every season.

Now I am in SC and the one hand me down friend that was here is gone so I have had to move on to clearance and second hand shopping for my daughter. My son has another year at least until I run out for him though some of it is sparse. Probably a good thing though now that I dont have space for dozens of totes lol.

In the last 2 years I have done some clothes stockpiling but it will be increasing this year. Thanks for all the tips!

    Default Let's talk kids' stockpiles

I'm really motivated to keep my home organized in 2011. This week, been working on the boys' room. I think that relatively speaking, I don't spend a ton of money on my kids' clothing. I buy at consignment and on clearance.

DS1 is 4, and has waaayyy too many clothes. But I'm not obsessing about it too much, because he can pass it down to DS2. And then if he ruins something, I still have lots to fall back on. I paid for so little of it, most of it is gifts or HMDs.

DS2--oh my! He has HMDs from older brother, just got more HMDs from cousin, xmas gifts....I just did a rough count--for starters--
    12 pairs of jeans
14 pairs of navy play pants--either knit or fleece or sweatpants
And that's not counting khakis and other pants!

What is reasonable, as far as pants for a little guy? I want to have some cushion in case he ruins things, but I also need to take some of this stuff to the consignment shop or ebay it and get some cash.

What's funny is that the kid only owns one pair of shoes, lol. I'm sure I'll be back later for more opinions on things as I clean out more.

Like, how many books do your kids have? Even if they really love books, is there a point where it's too many?

I normally buy 3 pairs of jeans for each child and then maybe a pair of dress pants, so if you want extras which is understandable then double that would do nicely, imho.

Oh books! This is something we need to thin out again, but it hurts. lol I'd be no help in this area except to go through and make sure to weed out ones with torn pages, doubles and ones that no longer are really age appropriate, although I'm guessing with the latter there aren't too many in that category with your sons being that young.
