Setting realistic goals is an important part of this challenge. And it takes a few months to really know what a good budget it for your family. And don't compare your budget to others, we are all at different places in life and its not fair to yourself to compare budgets because we all have different family sizes, eating habits, preferences etc. You are doing fine and it will get easier each month.
That's why I have my budget at more than DOUBLE what I usually have. i knew the last few months would be easy on our budget, but now that we will be back home, cooking every night etc. I know next month is gonna be a wild ride! Cooking for dd, ds, our possible future ds-in-law, and dd's roommate while we are in Florida next month (all in their early to mid 20's - big eaters!) is gonna take a big toll on the monthly budget. (but gonna love cooking for both of my kids again!).

That's why my "goal" is outrageous for March. I just added in all my "extra" from the last 2 months to my normal monthly amount. That way I shouldn't go over into purple. LOL. But if you figure in the extra mouths we will be feeding in March (and dd's boyfriend was a football player in college...he loves his food..lol) and the freezer meals I'm making for dd, restocking the perishables, garden stuff....its gonna be a whooper of a grocery bill for March.
