Oh, my extracts (for baking) evaporate very quickly. They have very high alcohol content. It's a shame, because around the holidays, it usually goes bogo at stores here, then McCormick usually puts out coupons. But now I just get what I think I'll use during one holiday season. I opened a never-before-opened bottle of peppermint extract, and it was completely empty!

I would think if you keep them in the freezer that would solve that problem.

There's something on Snopes about not eating cake mix that is too old. I think it can develop E coli or something.

I discovered that Sunlight automatic dishwashing detergent goes bad after several years (no idea how long I am talking about). It separated, and no amount of shaking, standing it upside down, etc. could make it right. I had to toss two bottles. I also have some trouble with fabric softener evaporating, but I just add water until I am satisfied with the consistency.

Cake mixes, brownie mixes, cookie mixes and pancake mixes can go moldy. So that is why you throw them out as soon as they have expired now.

You can't see the mold...but eating it can make you sick...AND if your allergic to mold (which many people are) worse things can happen.

I discovered one this week-- Rembrandt toothpaste. I had gotten a tube free at WAG last year sometime. I didn't check the date before I opened it. It's completely liquified. But I'm still using it.
