Default Very Unorganized Person in Desparate Need of HELP

Ok, so I am very VERY unorganized by nature . No really i cannot help it and no matter how hard I try it never gets better. Anyway I am having a very hard time keeping track of my inventory (including pantry and frozen items). It is starting to make it difficult to make shopping lists...what I have, what I need. Really want the Intelli scanner but way to expensive.

Here's the catch: I do not have a lot of time to spend on keeping track but desperately need to.

    Any suggestions???????

After my stockpile got well established, it was actually easier to 'know' what I had/didn't have. Also, in my pantry and all closet storage, I group like items together, even if that means using plastic bins of various sizes to hold the like items together.

Freezer, more difficult as I find myself hurrying and just sticking food wherever it will fit

But periodically, I unload it and regroup like items together and can 'see' easily what's in the freezer(s) so that I know I can pass up some deals and still have plenty of lead time waiting for the next on certain items.

I also work hard at putting 'new' stock in the back of the section where it belongs so that I'm always working on older stock being used first.

It takes time to get it all organized. I don't keep a list of what I have on hand, I like to be able to 'see' it visually and when looking at ads, if I see a great deal on something I'll check the pantry/freezer to see where my supply stands and if I should grab some of the deal being offered.

I wish I could help you more

My hubby just added more shelving which made the 'visual' easier for me to see what's on hand.

    Do you have a smartphone?

While I don't use this personally for stockpile inventory I do have a bar code scanner app on my iPhone that I use for inventory of other household items (books, CD's etc)

I think you could use it for stockpile inventory as well?

Yes I am visual as well...I like lots of shelves that are not too deep so that I can see everything at a glance.

I do keep a list (on my phone) if I have stashed away stockpile items. Like for instance I stocked up on sunscreen (like 60 bottles of it) but I cannot store it in my garage because winter is about to set in and some of it is aerosol spray on sunscreen, so I stored it under my bed. I jotted a note on my phone so I can remember where I stashed it. LOL

I don't inventory, but what I do is reserve space on shelves specifically for certain items - ie top shelf is paper towels, next is TP, next is shampoo and hair care, next shelf is whatever… Print up labels if necessary to help keep track of what should go where. Do the same for your kitchen cabinets and where ever you store things. Use labeled shoe boxes or bins for things that need stacked or are small and don't fit neatly on a shelf - just keep the same items in the same places. This allows you to just look at the designated shelf space, box or bin and see what is left and whether you need more. No paperwork no tracking. It is informal and the biggest downfall is running out of room due to a great sale, but you can always use a labeled box for excess if needed.

Oh my goodness, that brought to mind that commercial for post it notes with the squirrel writing down where he had hidden his winter nut stash!

Hey, we do whatever it takes, and only those like us understand the great lengths we go to in our endeavor to save and not lose track!
