Default I've stockpiled and now I'm MOVING!

Ahh! Ok, well we are planning on moving out of state and I have a medium sized stockpile going on (probably like 15 boxes of cereal, 10 bottles of shampoo, 6 packages of toilet paper, and others). We live with boyfriend's family and really don't want them to use up our stockpile since we bought the stuff with OUR coupons and we really want them for our new house. We don't have a house in Florida yet but will in the fall so were thinking about not bringing the stockpile until we move. (We will be living with my family for a few months.) Lots of questions regarding this:

1. Is it wise to risk leaving our stockpile items in the house (where his family lives and they may consume it) or should we just take it with us?
2. Now, if we take it with us, how would we be able to make it fit in 2 cars (non-SUVs)?
3. Or, should we rent a moving truck now and just try and leave all the furniture and stockpile items at mom's house?

Help!

FYI, a baby will be on board with us too!

This is probably not the answer you are looking for. If you didn't pay anything to live there then I would give them your stockpile as payment for being kind to you to live there. I am not knocking you if you don't. Just an idea. It would help them out and you too not having to pack it and move it.

Default Re: I've stockpiled and now I'm MOVING!

I guess I need to give more information...it is my bf's grandfather's house which is paid for and who is very sick and non-coherent who is being taken care of by his family. Sooo nobody is paying money to live there, but boyfriend's uncle are paying the bills who don't live with us. Soo now I need advice again. I feel like we have worked very hard and we have paid for these items (although for very little-we still used our money!) so we should keep them. :hectic1:

How about leaving the stuff there but box it up and tape the boxes real good. If you're really afraid they will raid the stockpile, maybe mark the boxes with something like books or dishes or something else. Just a thought.

Is selling it a possibility? or even selling it at a good price to the family? then you may have a good little envie of cash to buy "free" , NED, or long exp date q's taht you know you can get free stuff with....and take the Q's to your new house, then you have wala instant stockpile!!!

You bought it with coupons you can do it again where ever you move to, Take what you think you might need and have a garage sale and what ever is left over let them have it. That way you make a lil money you take some with you and your leaving some behind to be kind.

Default Re: I've stockpiled and now I'm MOVING!

If it were me, I'd rent a moving truck, and a small storage unit for all of my belongings if I wanted to keep them (not just the stockpile, but anything else you can live without at someone else's house but you want for your house). Might be a little more cost (here a 5x10 unit is $75/month), but it saves at least one trip back to get stuff because you can talk it all at once, and have access whenever, plus you make sure you have everything. But that's me...

Oh...and I wouldn't put boxed food unless it's packed REALLY well in a plastic rubbermaid container. Cans and cleaning/health and beauty should be fine, but boxes are easy for critters to get in, no matter how clean a unit is.

Default Re: I've stockpiled and now I'm MOVING!

If you do not take it be prepared for it to be used, given away, thrown away or otherwise used/moved/dealt with as they see fit. I have this problem with my mom all the time with the stuff I have stored in her barn (even confined to one stall she just can't handle not touching it and doing as she wants). So unless you are willing to let it go (and you don't sound like it) you need to bring it with you.

This may or may not be feasible and cost effective for you, whether its renting a moving truck, storage or just replacing it later and selling it now.

I know I moved my stockpile in November. I have a couple boxes of HBA, two large reusable totes of shampoo/conditioner, a tote of oral care (brushes, paste, wash), a stack of KY giftboxes, stacks of paper products, etc. It all got brought to the new apartment and not boxed and left at my parents because I know better and we already give some to them.

I think leaving some or all of it with your family would be a nice gesture, but its up to you.

Start doing some research about the stores near your new temporary home and see if it might be easy to rebuild your stockpile instead of moving it.

You will be really spending more than you would have paid at full price if you are going to rent a truck or pay storage to keep it. I say use it. It can be easily replaced. I know it is hard to part with sometimes but be practical. How much money do you really think you have spent on it? Sometimes there is a real emotional attachment to the stuff we buy because it was such a bargain. I know it happens to me. I say let it go. You are putting too much time and emotional worry into a few boxes of stuff that can be replaced for a small amount of money in the future when you are ready to use it.
