HELP How to store can goods...

So, over the past few weeks I scored 60 cans of tomato sauce, 200 cans of libbys veggies, and 50 cans of cream of mushroom/chicken...

Now.. how do I store them?!?!?!!

I was able to get the flats they came in for most of the veggies, so they are stacked in boxes right now.

I would like the can things like they have in the store nows.. where you put the can in the top, and the next one rolls down to the front...

Anyone know where to get these super cheap?

How do you guys store your can goods??

I do not use the boxes they come in because that is a godd way to get roaches and other bugs into your stockpile.

I just stock mine up on the shelves and put longer x dates in the back & closer x dates up front. I can thing would be nice but i wonder how many they hold ? And if it would be worth it too.

Go to the Sams Club website - just recently they had the can rotator shelves on sale and they were in stock at most locations. But the site lets you get dimensions and pricing.

If you really want those shelves, note: They are not cheap! and : They take up space that could be used for storage as long as you are diligent in rotating the cans yourself.

I will have to search for it - but I came across a blog of someone who had created the rotator shelves with cardboard boxes and they were strong enough to use with the canned goods. You could make them to fit your current shelves and slide them in place to use. (they still create wasted space)

Good question. I was wondering also. I don't have an answer because mine are still in the bags I brought them from the store in.

I saw someone posted on here that they just used empty soda 12pk boxes. I've done that, and it works ok, although for regular 15oz cans, you can only get 8-9 in a box.

If they are bigger cans (like Progresso or canned fruit) they fit even less, maybe 5 at the most and it's hardly worth it.

I just put mine in small sturdy boxes and store them in the garage for now. I keep a few cans in my regular stockpile shelves. I worry that if I put too many, the shelves start to bow.

HI Re: How to store can goods...?

Hi,

You might check out the Ikea stores if you have one near your home and/or town/city. We have use Ikea storage ideas and furniture/cabinets for alot of uses. I have 2 huge walk-in pantries and a full daylight basement for storage; but also use the Ikea storage ideas.

I also use Scotch tape and label every food item that comes in our home (i.e. frozen foods, canned foods, perishable items, dairy, etc.) with the date of when the item(s) were purchased and the expiration dates if I can find it on the products. You can look up online how long items usually last on food storage sites, etc. for a general guideline.

Web site for Ikea is below--

www.ikea.com (Ikea's site/info.)

Good luck--

I have canned goods in the flat boxes that they came on - and I slide them under my couch. My couch has a skirt so they dont show

I have this for cans
Amazon.com: SOUP CAN RACK: Kitchen & Dining

the amount it holds depends on the size of the cans. I have it on a shelf that is just about the same height as the rack so i can't get to the back to add new cans which means I have to take things out and then put them back in with the newly purchased items at the back. I don't have a ton of canned goods so it works for me.
