I made a few layered jars of different brownie/cake mixes. I was at the grocery store yesterday and saw one of those little cookbooks they have at the register that was all holiday "gift in a jar" type ideas. I think I am going to go back and buy it.
I am planning on making bath gift baskets too. I have a huge stockpile of Softsoap body wash, the free Glade candles and I just bought bath poofs at Christmas Tree Shops. They are the big one's and were 3/1.99. What else would you put in them?
I found adorable baskets, like hard cardboard, with Christmas designs at the dollar store. They are really nice and a good size for gift baskets, but I bet they will go fast. Keep the ideas coming!
If you want to save a little more money, you can just google it and you will get all kinds of ideas and results! Those little books (at least around here) are so spendy and you can get the same info online for free!! HTH!

Default Re: NOVEMBER challenge: Living Off Of Your Stockpile. STARTS TODAY!!!

So I have a story to share that only my squeezies (aka you guys) would understand. So, as I mentioned in October's thread, I sent hubs to the gas station to get my papers last Sunday and the lady gave him a really hard time about buying 5 papers at a time and muttered stuff about "clearing the shelves" at him. (and he has since vowed that he will never buy my papers for me again )

So, this morning, I go to the same gas station and get my weekly 5 papers. It should be pointed out that I have been doing this every.single.Sunday. since we moved here in May. and it has never been a problem. So today I walk in and the lady accuses me of selling the papers to other gas stations after I buy them from her.

Apparently they think there's a black market for newspapers (of all things!) and I'm heading it up! :hysteri cal:

I assured her that is not the case and I am actually just buying them for myself (which had every customer in the place laughing histarically, they don't get why someone would need 5 papers all to themselves, lol) and she responded with "well. you clear the shelf every week. my manager wants to know what your deal is." I kindly answered that there were still well over 20 of the paper that I had bought left today, and many more of other papers left and that I had only "cleared the shelf" so to speak about twice.

I think I'm looking for a new gas station to buy my papers at from now on...

I just had to pop in and make a comment about the clearing the shelves of newspapers post...

I have never understood the mentality of any business person who complained about selling all of their product! If they don't have enough for everyone, order more. It makes no sense to me. I run into it at grocery stores here. Sometimes they tell me I am buying too much. I say to them, "So you like gambling and hoping that enough people come along behind me to buy this stuff?"

Starting with
$4 in cash
$25 Shoprite GC
$25 Discover GC
$12 rebate checks

I have some items currently up for trade that are generating stamps/PP, do I count that? I hadn't planned on it since that comes out as a wash for future trades or if it's significant enough, I pay a bill with it.

My husband said the same thing. We're paying for them, so why are they complaining? Besides, the only two times that I took the last of the Sunday papers it was like 3 in the afternoon, and when I worked at a gas station we were lucky to have papers left at that time of day and I would be glad to have someone take them so I wouldn't have to cart them out to the recycling the next morning

Okay so I started working my November grocery budget yesterday since Friday was payday and I took my monthly grocery allowance from there. Here's how my OOP worked out...

HyVee - $3.00
CVS - $0 OOP (paid on gc)
Family Dollar - $1.05 < 10% so doesn't count
Walgreens - 84c < 10% so doesn't count
Target - $0 OOP (paid on gc)
Fareway - $3.99
WalMart - $8.61

So that all adds up to $15.60, which wouldn't be so bad (especially since I have $11.47 in rebates to send in now) but we took our grams out for supper last night since it was her birthday and that was $40.00 OOP after tip and all. Which wasn't terrible for 3 people and we all ordered something nice to eat (read: not burgers ) but for the first day of the challenge it really hurts me to say that my total oop for November so far is $55.60

Hi all--

Ok I am starting with:
$1 CVS ECB
0 Wags RR
$303.60 cash

This weekend hubs and I got away for the first time together from the furious four! My mom and dad were nice enough to come and stay...hubby got two free hotel nights at the new casino/hotel in Greektown. So this morning we each took $5 out of our monthly allowance to go and play the penny slots (not much of slot gamblers) and I made mine into 30!!!! He lost his lol.. so thats a net gain of 20..as I figured 30 total cash out, minus original investment of $5, minus his loss $5= $20 profit.. well we then went and had breakfast with that and I spend 16.40 so that means now we have 303.60 for the rest of the month..

ooo I am so excited!!! used stockpile items to make spaghetti sauce for dinner and we will go from there.

Started off the month with $25 GC from Target and $8.50 Kroger cats.

Today bought 5 double papers at Walmart for $14.45, but posted a few auctions to hopefully make some of that back.

Not sure what's for supper, but we are definitely eating in.
