| Re: I'm speechless....... We stockpile because in order to save the big bucks you buy when something is on sale with coupon and we buy enough of that product to last till the next sale when we can again get it cheap.
Here is an example.
Ok lets say that my family uses a bottle of ketchup once a month, that would be 12 bottles of ketchup a year. Instead of buying my families ketchup once a month at full price or even generic price (lets say $2.00) I wait till it goes on sale (usually in the summer months) for $1.00 a bottle and I use a coupon for lets say $0.30 off making my Ketchup $0.70 a bottle instead of $2.00 a bottle. I buy 12 bottles with 12 coupons and now I have paid $8.40 instead of $24.00 for my families year of ketchup consumption.
If I do this with 90% of the non perishable items that my family consumes (cereal, canned foods, snacks, cookies, crackers, tuna, mayo, BBQ sauce) as well as what I can reasonably store in my freezer(s) (frozen pizza, chicken, beef, frozen veggies etc) you save a lot of money.
The side benefit of stockpiling besides saving money is that you are able to help your family out in the case of an emergency (hurricane, tornado, winter storm, flood) or family crisis (job lay off, car accident, birth of a baby, death in the family, unexpected emergency, etc).
If you think about it, our forefathers and fore mothers stockpiled too. They would put up food for the winter from their gardens, smoke meat, and prepare for lean times. This is the same concept except that we just buy our stuff at the lowest prices possible. |

The next time some smart a$$ makes a comment about my stockpile or overflowing grocery cart of items, I'm going to 'whip' this comment out!! The people on this board are so dang smart. :) |

| Re: I'm speechless....... I stockpile to ensure my family will always have what we need. We are planning on buying a farm in the near future and know our financial situation will be way different than what it is now. I want to go into it with a huge stockpile just as a precaution. I do not want to be unprepared. I also don't trust the economy anymore, so the cheaper I can get things, the better off we are. I am all about keeping my family well supplied and making sure they get to live "the good life" without breaking our budget.

| Re: I'm speechless....... Well said qoth
I, like previous posters stockpile
because of the economy,
I like to use coupons,
the chase of the deal,
and to share with others.
The main thing was that I was preparing for the future .........
which is now my current situation.
In my stockpile I have hundreds of pounds of rice and beans,
40 + tuna pouches,
25 + cans meat,
50+ cans of soup I have been donating the last 2 weeks. I am getting ready for this weeks sale on progressi soup, shopping bags and pilsbury bread and the store is going to pay me $1 to get it. (publix)
50+ canned veggies,
100+ fruits,
bags of grains,
75 boxes of cereal
and rc for another 20 that expire in dec
2 freezers full of meat, veggies and dairy products.
LOL, I am ready for the Oct stockpile challenge to start rotating again.
