in the beginning, i couponed and stockpiled to save money on the basic necessities....then, i got pregnant and i wanted to be able to ensure we could buy her fun stuff and save for a new house...needless to say i was able to stockpile diapers and wipes and baby food paying very little if anything for all....this in turn help me pay off two cars and put a nice bit in savings...

now, i havent had a pay check for 4 months...i have yet to dip into savings to help with bills or food. i purchase items that we will eat that are costing little to no money. and kmart doubles has really helped out on basic supplies....i find that we eat what i find on sale and i make my meals accordingly....ex: traded for great winetags on meat and stocked up on steak (cheaply) this week...chose the steak as i still have tons of hamburger from a kroger mega deal when i got overage....

now i cant even think of paying full price for laundry detergent, shampoo (still using the herbal essence from two christmas's ago), or cleaning supplies. i have enough of that to last me into next year!!!

A lot of the stockpiles you see pictures of look extreme because they belong to very large families. I've never gotten around to doing pics of mine - but there are just three of us, so they would look tiny by comparison. Nonetheless, I do have a year's supply of nonperishables, and enough of an overstock of the things we use regularly to where I 1)don't have to worry about being completely out of something, and 2) never have to pay full price, because we have enough of a supply at home, where we can wait till the next sale.

In short, I stockpile modestly, and I do so because I like my weekly grocery bill to be $100, not the $250 that it was before I started. $150 a week, $7800 a year that is now free to be spent in other ways. If somebody was going to pay you $7800 per year to do a stockpile, would you do it?

I myself have recently started to think about stockpiling and I am alittle overwhelmed on how to even start. My husband and I would really like to start saving money to pay off debt we have accumulated over the past couple of years and I think this would be one way to actually start. I read and read and read and I get confused on how to find something that costs pennies to even nothing. If you have one tip on how a beginner starts, what would that be?

I haven't started stockpiling yet either, but I have all intentions to do so. I'm a SAHM and I love being able to help save the money that DF is working so hard to earn. If I was able to tell him that we didn't have to buy any paper products, canned foods, HBA items, and things like that for a year, he'd be tickled pink! My only issue is the space, we don't have a whole lot to spare.

I like saving money. if I buy a lot of what we use when it's on sale, I don't have to pay full price. I opens up some of our budget to other essentials like daycare and utitlities as well as free money. It also offers us the chance to eat better because I cook at home more with my stockpile.

The reason i started is because we was living paycheck to paycheck and never having any extra groceries. I've been couponing hard for about 2-3 yrs now. My reason for stockpiling now has changed. I do it now for the same reason couponatormommy does, Scared that my DH is going to get laidoff. For us it's only a matter of time. His type of job he does, the industry is dying.
