Default Re: OCTOBER challenge: Living Off Of Your Stockpile. Let the Games Begin!

In my area there have been fantastic meat and seafood deals black friday. Plus I see lots of great sales in Dec. There are old posts from Hotcouponmama about checking out your local meat dept on black friday.
Not sure what kind of deals I will find this year since some of our local grocers have went under.
The first year I was an idgit and didn't realize how good the sales were. I found a rebate for prime rib and went back to get it after the black friday sales and was shocked to see the price. Yeah, what was around $25 was now $50.
I see bunches of rebates in Dec for ham, turkey, prime rib and seafood.

Besides In the past I have found my self throwing stuff in a freezer and forgetting about it. I use to throw out 1/2 a fridge freezer of burnt crap. So now I try to rotate my freezer and cook out of it like I am suppose to.

I think jane4girls said it best
Don’t get more than you will use or give away. There is a difference between stockpiling and hoarding. If you can’t use it all or don’t give it away before it goes bad you are hoarding.

I thought about that yesterday as I threw out ritz and town house stale crackers and crackers do go bad at the month they expire and sometimes the month b4.
At the start of school I found cereal that expired this summer and a can of manwich that expired in 08.
I call my self rotating and checking dates. ACK
Lesson learned - no more stocking up on crackers and when I can get free cereal (out of the normal stockpiling cycle) give it away b4 I get home.

Hello all! When i signed up yesterday, I forgot to list what I'm starting with. I have 15.00 in rebates and 39.00 from my grocery envelope that carried over from Sept. That 39.00 is to go into our "extra money" account to pay for DD's preschool and gymnastics so I'm sticking with the 15.00 in rebates and any other rebates that may come in this month.

good luck everyone.

Ok, I am back from dropping DS1 off at preschool. I would normally head to the stores for these 2 1/2 hours until I pick him up but since I hit safeway last night after work and I need to go back to safeway tomorrow for pepsi on their 3 day sale I figured I better just come home. It's amazing that I hadn't gone to safeway in a couple months then have been there 5 times in the last 2 weeks. :shrug7:

I am dragging my feet to clean house and pack the camper. DS2 is crabby today and also in the 'Me Do it' stage. That is such a bad combination. :sad:

He woke up at 5am today and was crying like night terror type crying. He got up and started bringing EVERYTHING from his bed in to my bed and would not calm down. It was almost compulsive. Once everything was transferred over it still took me 20 minutes to calm him down and get him to fall back asleep but only if my hands were around him and laying in a specific spot.

So when he finally was back asleep I had (in addition to my normal pillows & blankets) his regular pillow, his car shaped pillow, his bear pillow, a cabage patch doll, 2 stuffed dogs, a glow worm, his blanket, and another stuffed animal all in my bed with DH & me. DH was laughing as he was bringing me more and more stuff. It wasn't so funny when DS wouldn't stop crying though. DS1 who shares a room with him slept thru the whole thing.

So that is how my morning started. Figured taking him anywhere today was a bad idea so now I just need to get motivated at home!

Had an appointment this morning. I put a roast and vegetables in the crock pot before I left. Stopped at CVS and Safeway to see if they had any good clearance deals but nothing so I have not spent any OOP today. I did get $1.50 for the quarterly ECB's to add to my $15.00 at CVS for the month. No rebates came in the mail today. Tomorrow we will have leftover roast and Saturday I am making a crock pot of potato soup since I have a lot of potatoes to use up right now.

Day #1 (I'm already spending)

Safeway:
3 boxes cleanex
2 bananas
OOP = $.17 < 10%

Friuit stand:
3 overripe bananas (1 lb) for the banana pineapple bread I'll try, $.25/lb
OOP = $.25

Had to gas up - went to the station that gives a $.10/gallon discount to cash customers so paid $2.64/gallon

Spending so far: .25
