    QUESTION Space Saver bags???

I have a damp, buggy basement and was wondering about using space saver bags to store things such as pasta, instant potatoes etc. Has anyone tried this? I've used plastic containers in the past but the damp smell got into the food packaging- UCK! I'm running out of space in my living areas to store my stock.

Personally, I would still say no to this idea. I've had problems with the space saver bags losing their seal or getting pin holes in them. They are great for soft goods such as clothing, but not so much for any hard items such as food boxes.

Is there a way you can store your extra blankets, towels, etc. down there in the space saver bags and then use that space upstairs for your stockpile? Or maybe you can crate your HBA items like shampoo and deodorants down there, freeing up space in the living areas?

I would say no also if it were anything I was going to eat. I like the idea about moving HBA stuff down there though. Depending on where you are storing it now...you'd free up some room for food upstairs.

I am thinking about emptying my hall closet...which is almost all HBA stockpile to the garage and then using it as a overstock pantry...I just haven't gottent that far yet. Right now I am only keeping things in "hard" packaging in the garage...like powerades and juicy juice. I am not putting anything in soft packaging (boxes, pouches etc out there.)

I agree. Also you can get some storage bins that will slide under your bed. This is a great place to store canned goods.

I put all of my shoes in plastic shoe boxes and moved them all to the top shelf of my closet, now I can use the bottom of my closet to store extra canned goods too.

I moved all of my linens out of the linen closet and use that for boxes and pouches. HBA is in the utility room and garage.

What did I do with linens? They are stored in the rooms that they are used in....

Yeah, I agree with the others. I wouldn't use those bags for food. I had a space bag for about an hour once. It was so flimsy that when it accidentally snagged on a nail, it was over. So I wouldn't trust it with something you actually want to eat someday.
