Default NEW QUESTION IN POST #5...What brand vacuum sealer bags do you use?

I ran out of the Rival brand last year. I bought wal-mart brand bags. I honestly didn't use my vacuum sealer that much in the last 6-8 months. Last week, i used it a ton. I vacuum sealed lots of things. When went to move the items from y freezer to the deep freezer, i noticed it wasn't a tight vacuum anymore. The bag was not completely lifted of the food, but definitely not vacuum and sealed like it was a day before. I vacuumed and resealed all the bags and hoped for the best.

What bags do you use? Should i just stick with the rival brand? I am completely out and need to get some soon.

I looove my vac sealer!! Mine is a foodsaver and in the past I've tried the cheaper bags because.....well you know why. Anyway the cheaper bags didn't hold the vacuum either so I've went back to the name brand bags. The foodsaver bags are alot more expensive but it turns out to be soooo worth it. The food just keeps better in the better (more $) bags. Hope this helps.

I have a foodsaver and have only used foodsaver bags. I sometimes have problems with the bags when I am reusing bags. I think that they get a hole on the old seal and loose there air overnight in the freezer. I just make sure that I use that item first.
I use my foodsaver for almost all of my meats that I buy.
I get my bags from Kohls when they have 30% off coupons/codes.

I too am very loyal to the Foodsaver brand. I just don't trust the others.

Thanks so much for your responses. I went out and bought the seal a meal bags. They did the same thing. I cleaned my machine and no help. I think it might be time for a new one :( I am looking at this one. Does anyone know if the canister attachments are interchangable? I have several for the Seal a Meal one, that is something i do not want to have to replace.

    Or this one?

I've heard great reviews regarding the Weston brand bags. They are roughly half the cost of the Foodsaver brand bags. They are 3.5 mil, so they aren't quite as thick but only by a small margin. I have read only good things. I bought some from Amazon today and I'll update when I have an opportunity to really give them a go.

I don't stockpile meat for more than a year, and I've been fine with just the little ziploc hand pump vacuum. I bought (well, got for free) the Reynolds one, which is battery operated. But no matter what I did, I could never match up the vacuum to the sealing area and 'grab' it for a seal, kwim?

Then ziploc came out with theirs so I tried it. It grabs easily every time for a seal and the bags work well. The bags are inexpensive and every once in a while, I can find them included in a ziploc catalina deal, so I stock up.

I only really use them for meats when I find meat on clearance, and soups/casseroles when I just made too much and there are 1 or 2 servings leftover--I freeze in 1 serving packages for me to take for lunch.
