    Default Upcoming school supplies

I'm new to stockpiling but I know that there will be good deals coming up for school supplies. I don't have school age kids but I want to stock up for shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Do a lot of q's come out for school supplies? What are the best stores to plan to shop for these? Is it too early to even be thinking of this?

I stocked up on a ton of folders and notebooks. I got a case of notebooks at Walmart (don't remember how many were in it) at .05 apiece. These are good notebooks. They should last me for the rest of my life. I also got about 40 folders at Target during their clearance sales at .03 apiece. I remember getting a ton of packages of pens for free last year with coupons too.

I loved the .05 notebooks at Walmart! I stocked up big time. I used to teach and school supplies were my first stockpile. I am not a big Walmart fan, but they generally have the best prices for school supplies. I would stock up on 24 pack crayons (.10 each) glue (.10 or .20 each) and notebooks.

Do you have a Staples close to you? For the past few years, they had penny deals that were really good. I remember pocket portfolios, 12 pack pencils, and 12 ct. erasers being a penny deal.

Walgreens, RiteAid and CVS usually have some school supplies free after rebate.

It's definately not too soon to think about sales on school supplies. In Alabama, our kids go back in early August. The sales usually start the week after the Fourth of July and run through August.

Watch for IP's July-Aug...last year I picked up:

Tons of free pens at K-Mart w/IP's
Pocket folders for pennies at CVS, Wags, Office Depot & Office Max
Cheap rulers, sharpies protractors, & erasers at WAGS
Toys R Us had a deal on smaller crayola crayon boxes B1G2 & crayola washable markers B1G1.
Cheap pencils were always out-of-stock no matter where I went.
    Everyone had ruled paper sales.

Or wait until after school starts & try to hit the after-school sales.

I look at clearance areas all year long. Even if you don't know exactly what the supply list consists of, almost every student needs pens, pencils, erasers, notebooks, folders...and the little ones always need crayons, glue sticks, pencil bags, etc. If they're really cheap...I pick them up, and they go in the school supply tote.

Last year, my husband and I were both out of work. So, buying school supplies, and paying the school fees were two things that took a chunk out of our tiny budget. This year, I figured that school is out for 10 weeks. So, I started an envelope, where I'm putting $10/week in it until school starts. It's the money for school supplies and those darned fees that they send the note home for, during that first week!

Yes, my Wags in SE WI are clearing out old school supplies for the arrival of new materials.

I saw spiral notebooks, pocket folders, some 3-ring binders, zipper pencil bags, some BIC red pens packs, pencils, other misc. stuff on clearance. Some were in the clearance area & some in the office/school supply aisle. Big clearance stickers on deals!
