    Default Shed Storage Discussion

I live in Massachusettes. We recently bought a shed and are in the process of setting it up. I have no room in my home for stockpiling. Any suggestions on what is okay to store in this shed? I am sure it will get very hot in the summer. I will be so grateful for any suggestions.

I just started storing in my shed too.. only criteria for not going out side was it couldnt be something creamy or go rancid from the heat.. like salad dressings.. but things like chips, cereal, spices, paper products, housecleaning items all went into the shed.. but i did end up spending about $150 on a whole new organized set up..

I went to Target and bought their largest 5 shelf wire rack for around $60.. And then I bought 4 of the largest clear sterilite containers that could fit on the shelfs.. those ran $12 each on sale.. Also 8 smaller clear sterilite containers that cost $6 each.. so i fit one large sterlite and two smallers containers on one shelf..

the reason i used clear tubs is because i want to easily be able to see whats in them and i want to be able to see before i stick my hand in there, if there are critters or insects.. and Im hoping the plastic tubs can keep bigger rodents from getting them.. Ill take a picture of my setup in little bit..

I keep soda in the garage and it gets hot in there. Doesn't seem to have an effect on the fizziness.

I would also think any HBA, cleaning supplies could easily be stored in your shed. Canned good would be perfect to store there, too.

If you are going to store *anything* that insects, mice, squirrels, etc. would get into, I would suggest using some type of clear plastic sealable bin. I had crackers and, of all things, marshmallow fluff (creme) in a plastic container (orgininal packaging), in the garage and mice ate right though the packaging!

I would think anything that is non-perishable and will not freeze would be best suited in a shed that is outside. If you do put HBA items out there you may end up having to haul some it if back in-doors come fall/winter so that did doesn't freeze.

Some cleaning products also freeze - (2) bottles of Fantasik, froze, cracked, and leaked on me in a 18 gallon tote this past winter out in our garage (connected to our home but not heated - but it was against the kitchen wall which is heated too).

Paper products for sure would be o.k.

HAPPY DANCE re: Shed Storage Discussion

this is a great thread i was thinking about storing in my shed and im in nj...hot hot summers, cold cold winters, so im thinking anything liquid im going to avoid for now....anything i will put out will be in bins also due to it being outside bugs, rodents, humidity, stuff like that soooo so far im thinking paper products...just moving paper towels and tp, baggies and foil will free up lots of space!! toothbrushes and maybe the deoderants and bar soaps??? i wonder if these melt...i have a travel bag in my car for all seasons and they do just fine come to think of it so im going to do it!!! i have to look through the stockpile and see if i run across other things that will be ok and thanks for the great idea!!!

please PM me if I owe you feedback...also I LOVE EXPIREDS!! Especially 75/1 and frees and any expired hot coupons you may have no use for (gatorade, johnsons, chinet, electrosol ect ect) please PM me to trade!! I have cash, stamps, or maybe even your wishes :)

don't store deodorant sticks in the shed, it will melt in the summer. paper products like paper plates, dinner napkins, TP, PT, etc are okay. if there's possibility of flodding, make sure your goods are up on a shelf/platform.

we built a warehouse for S/P and yard selling purposes and its insulated. but I still check all goods kept in there to make sure they are okay.
