I just saw a similar idea in the new issue of Family Fun! I believe they used paint. I'd like to try either of those ideas with my 3 year old, who has sensory issues. I bet he'd like to do that without touching the paint or shave gel!

Bar soap: my mom used to make liquid soap by soaking the scraps in water until they dissolved. She also had to do this because my brother and I got our hands on the Irish Spring and carved it all up into shavings. (Remember the IS commercials where they used a knife to cut off a slice? We did that. Lots of slices!)

my kids like to grate the soap with a cheese grater!

Ive used hairspray on spiders many times when i had no bug spray! I made a 5 gallon bucket of home made detergent as well, lasted forever!
i sprinkle baking soda in the litter box to absorb odors. sometimes the litter doesnt always do its job!

To get the smell of skunk out of your dog that has been sprayed
    mix:
1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
    1/4 cup of baking soda
1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap

Vinegar works wonders to rid your towels AND washer of that stinky mildew smell.
I use about 1/2 cup in every load towels. My towels and washer are always fresh.

I work in a hospital .. we use shaving cream to clean #2 messes off people it takes the smell out of the room and cleans real good.

Also i put baking soda in my cats litter box for smell

My momma always told me if you have cooked food just stuck in pot to just set a fabric softener sheet on top and it takes the grease right off

toothpaste cleans stainless steel very nicely

Very sore tooth or gums ? place a regular cheap aspirin right on the tooth and pain will be gone

Free heating packs we use these all the time at work
get old tube socks fill with rice and sew the top microwave ( reuseable )
or a baggy and a wash cloth
wet the washcloth wring out all water put in baggy micowave for about 30 seconds *** be careful **** can be very hot

A tab of Vaseline on eye lid before applying eye shadow can make it last alll day

We all do this for oily or dirty skin use rubbing alcohol on a cotton

You can also remove of ugly grease and oil spots in your driveway or on your garage floor. Simply cover them with cat litter. If the spots are fresh, the litter will soak up most of the oil right away. To remove old stains, pour some paint thinner on the stain before tossing on the cat litter. Wait 12 hours and then sweep clean. If you don’t want to use paint thinner, add some laundry detergent, allow to set 12 hours, then scrub up.
Tide powder works like a charm! I used to sell industrial chemicals and my mechanics wouldn't buy my stuff because they used Tide, and as a liquid degreaser? Dawn.

Dawn is also great at removing ring around the collar and grease stains from laundry!

Well I can add my 0.02 cents.

    Lava bar soap
Is a good facial cleaner (exfoliate) it will even take magic marker off of a 3 year old who just happened to get it EVERYWHERE on themselves lathering up a washcloth not using the bar on the bare skin before their mom got home thank GOD.

    Ammonia

I have used this as a color safe bleach and it is fabric safe to (considering it was the VERY first bleaching agent used in history).

    Window Cleaner

If you have a skipping DVD or CD first try cleaning the bottom with window cleaner gunk and grease will cause it to skip if this doesn't work then use the toothpaste tip below.

    Toothpaste
Can be used to clean DVD's + CD's (game ones too) that skip and don't work just get an old soft bristle toothbrush and apply the toothpaste in a single motion from the center out [from the opening in the middle to the edge] (WARNING DO NOT GO AROUND IN A CIRCLE LIKE A RECORD PLAYER THIS WILL RUIN THE DISC) go all the way around then rinse with cool water.

If you take and grind the litter into a old stain with your booted foot it will get rid of the stain then just sweep up the dust and the unused litter and put it into a pan and let it set in the sun to dry out and it can be used again.
