I need ideas on the best way to store extra sugar and flour. We live in a humid environment (even using a/c 11 months a year)
I have a food saver - is it worth putting it in plastic and sealing? Would canning jars be better?:hectic1:
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I use big paint-type buckets. The five gallon ones. You really need to freeze your flour for at least 24 hours first before storing it; then make sure that it's tightly capped and in a cool place. HTH!
I wrap bags of flour in freezer paper, sealing all seams with packaging tape. Then I store them in the freezer.
Write on the freezer paper what it is and the date.

I get buckets from the bakeries at the grocery store. They buy their frosting and stuff in them. Sometimes they will give them to me, sometimes they will charge a dollar or so. Often you will have to ask them to save them for you and then come back a few days later to pick them up. Then you have to wash out all the frosting remnants and they are good to use.
I like them because they have a rubber ring in the lid to make a really good seal and they are extremely strong and sturdy. Also, you know they must be food grade.
I can't be done shopping, I still have coupons left!!!
Please move if this is not the correct place to ask.
Since I just bought ten bags ie 50 pounds of sugar, I was wondering if anyone has suggestions how to store it.
I have a space above my cabinets that I was thinking about putting them wrapped in a plastic bag. Or should they go in the freeze like flour?
Thanks
Kate

I have never tried to store that much sugar but I've seen other posters talking about putting it in rubbermaid or glass type containers. Mary Hunt, the cheapskate, says it will last for a very long time.
I put bay leaves in and around all my pastas, cereals, flours, oatmeals etc. Bay leaves deter critters. I'm not sure if it helps with sugar but it can't hurt.
