Loreal Vive works very well for that, smells good and the carpet gets cleaner than with any professional carpet shampoo I've ever used before. It gets pet stains as well, which is very important for me as we have a veritable zoo. I've been using shampoo for carpet cleaning for about 3 yrs now and don't see any deteriorating in the carpet fibers, actually - they look better considering the age, than the carpet in my old place that was done with official carpet shampoos!
I am interested in this, but a little afraid to try. What do you do to insure it doesn't become a sudsy mess? Do you just use a tiny bit? Any info would be appreciated. We have pets & dirty carpet!

It's a bit of trial and error I guess, and it would depend on what type of shampooer you have. I have a Hoover Agility, which has two seperate containers for clean soapy water and waste water. I have a measuring cup to mix the cleansing water solution, and I just use as much as recommended, maybe a tad less. The worst that happens with this shampooer, is I get too much foam when I suck up, and need to empty the waste container more often than usual. I do a last "go over" round with plain water [and flea killer] anyway, to get the extra soap out.

My previous shampooer was a pain as it had a waterline running from the faucet into the shampooer and the soap got mixed into the water during useage. I wouldn't recommend that type of shampooer unless you don't mind a bit of experimenting with.

I like my cleansing water as hot as I can get if from the tap [I always shampoo with hot water, gets cleaner that way] and then add enough shampoo to get a nice soapy feel when I test it with my fingers - I think you know what I'm trying to say.

What type of shampooer do you use?

for carpet cleaner I use Dawn the blue cheep one works wonders and .99 instead of carpet claner bottle which is like $20 just use it like you are getting ready for dishes just squirt it in there. I am a HARDworking mom as ya'll say at this dawn makes me feel a whole lot more better cause could you imagine all the chemicals in carpet cleaners then your kids roll and heads are on the carpet OMGosh.Eww

Shampoo is great for getting hairspray off walls and doors. (from the over spray) Makes sense since it takes it off hair!

This thread is both interesting and frightening at the same time. Reading all the uses for Pert how it strips this and that and knowing that it was initially meant to be put on your head...

Great thread thanks! I have some Aussie shampoo and conditioner that were freebies from CVS and I dont like it, It makes my hair greasy. I was going to give it away but now I will try it out on the shower, toilet, my legs and as laundry detergent. Let you all know how it works. I have a bunch of sauve Q's I was going to ROAK, but now I will find it cheap and try it on my legs as well.

Years ago when I went to tanning salons they told me to shave my legs with conditioner. It helps keep your skin from drying out and therefore preserving your tan.
