SMILE So excited to give a stockpile gift!

One of my coworkers is sending her oldest off to college in a few weeks. Her DH is currently out of work due to a workplace injury and is in the middle of all of the proceedings to get a workman's comp/disability settlement, but in the meantime, they are hurting because he is only earning a fraction of what he made while he was working. My coworker is really stressing because she needs to get her son ready to go to school and she doesn't really have a lot of money to shop for the things he'll need to take up to school with him.

I spent today sorting and organizing my stockpile, and I filled a small laundry basket for my coworker's son. I gave him a whole bunch of essentials - shampoo, body wash, hand soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, razors, etc, plus some school supplies and cleaning supplies that are good for the dorm (like Windex wipes, Clorox wipes, etc). I threw in a few bags of candy to top it off. The best part is that all I spent was the money for the laundry basket (1.99 on sale) and he pretty much has enough to last him all semester.

I am so excited to bring the basket to work tomorrow. I know that my coworker will really appreciate it, and I'm so glad to be able to save her the money that she would have spent on all of those things. Even if it's only $100 or so that she doesn't have to spend, at least it's something. I'm just genuinely glad to be able to help them and to make good use of this stockpile I've been building.

That IS a really awesome thing! Speaking from the experience of having a husband who lost his job not that long ago (he's employed again now, thank goodness!), I'm sure that she's going to really appreciate your "gift basket"! I make regular donations to a homeless shelter here in my city, so now that I'm getting better at getting deals, I can start donating a lot more--I'm loving it!

That's is so very nice of you! It feels great to give. Even if you didn't spend that much money on it, you know that everything will get used and will be appreciated. What a nice friend you are.

What a great gift! I'm sure that your co-worker will more than appreciate it. It does feel good to help others when they need it most.

Ahh, see there is a difference between cost and value.

A few months ago my best friend's neighbor was having a really rough time and I packed two boxes of stuff for her and her two kids. I don't know who was happier, her receiving it or me giving it! I was really excited to do something like that, lol.

You have just made your coworker's life a little bit easier with one less thing to worry about!
