| What are your goals for stockpiling? Everyone has their opinion on where (or where not) the economy is going. Personally I think we're in for a bumpy ride, but us couponers are prepared. I don't think it will be crazy/drastic/civil war craziness, but I want to be prepared.
So I set a goal for myself today to have at least 6 months worth of food stockpiled. This means in addition to the usual pantry goods and freezer items, that I want to have enough water, formula (yes, my 20-month-old drinks formula, flame away ;), powdered milk, Gerber Graduates, etc.
We have water delivered (our tap water is disgusting), so I think we're going to have them deliver us an extra one or two next month for the water cooler, and stockpile the nursery water and some extra bottled water.
I'm sure there are lots of people that already have 6 months worth. :D Once I hit that, I'm sure I'll tack on another 6 months. There are 3 adults and my DD in my household, but I'd also like to have enough for extended family if need be.

| Re: What are your goals for stockpiling? If I had more room, I'd definately have a bigger goal, but I don't. I only have a bookcase for extra storage beyond the kitchen. This house is lacking closets etc. etc. DH has a great job too, so I am not as concerned as maybe some. His co. is also very family-oriented, so I know they'd make sure DS and I were OK if anything happened to him. |

| Re: What are your goals for stockpiling? My stockpile ( small compared to others) mainly consists of HBA and condiments- i have "enough" : Toothpaste, toothbrushes, tampons/pads, deodderant, hair spray, mousse, shampoo/conditioner, moisturizer, mascara. bar soap, dish soap,Astringent for at least a year.....
My other "big" items are :BBQ, salad dressing, mayo....enough for at least 6 months-
By goal now is to stock up on canned/pouch tuna, pastas, rices, soups, canned fruits/veggies and to buy as much fresh meat as I can afford and freeze it- i would ideally love to have 6 months of non-perishables with at least a month's worth of meats in the freezer.....

| Re: What are your goals for stockpiling? We're working on a couple months, but nothing that can be frozen as we have only the freezer on the fridge which isn't much even for only two people. If we had kids I might be more into a 3-6 month thing, but we can always trade hba items for food if we needed to |

| Re: What are your goals for stockpiling? I have been couponing for several years. Over the course of my shopping I've gone overboard a few times and had things left in the pantry way past the expiration date. Now my goal, except with non-perishables, is to stock to the expiration date, then continue rotating my stockpile at that time. This way I always have a good amount of whatever on hand. I've found that with perishables, the sales come back around before the expiration date. There's time to add to the stockpile.
Now toilet paper and other paper goods, that's another story. I'll always squeeze another package in my already bulging stockpile, and HBA -- well we'll be able to keep the entire town clean and nice-smelling when the hurricanes roll around! |
