I know soooo many people who breastfeed until their kids are 2+ but would be the first to jump you for the formula thing! Irritates the crap outta me.
Mine is on milk and he drinks wayyy too much milk and I get told that all the time and I say you know what people dont have a problem with kids drinking cola and sugared JUNK but because mine wants to drink extra milk instead of it you want to bash me. I have friends and family members nursing way longetr than the "suggested" time but thats ok too but boy dont give that kid more than 16 oz of cows milk a day...WHATEVER!
Im so sick of moms bashing each other. If you want to breastfeed then breastfeed if you want to formula feed then formula feed if you want to give them milk give them milk. As long as they are healthy who cares.
Sorry, ever since I got pregnant the "feeding" issues have bothered me. I could start a whole hot under the collar thread on some of the stuff Ive heard/seen. But just wanted to say only you kno what your DD needs. |

Different things work for different people!
also...I looked at some of the things that I have...and I'm thinking that four months isn't a very honest answer...I'm going to say after looking at my shampoo and toothpaste that I'm probably trying to stock up for like..a year lol |

| Re: What are your goals for stockpiling? mama22qts - I'm jealous of your Electrasol stash. :D BTW this is silly, but it took me forever to realize what your name meant. I couldn't seperate the 2s, I was always like - 22 quarts? What's with 22 quarts?
I don't pay any attention to expiration date, I have to admit. However, my extended family is HUGE and there is always someone who can use it. Plus, my uncle is a pastor and he and my aunt (and their 4 children) house my Grandma, as well. They're always hosting events for their church, plus they help with a Pregnancy Crisis Center and Food Bank. So every other month or so, I pull out everything expiring soon, and if I don't think I can use it, it gets carted on my next trip to be used by family. :)

Thanks for getting my back! :D I definitely hear you on that. My SIL is making the decision to bottle feed, and she gets grief from TOTAL strangers about it. I was unable to breast feed, and I STILL got grief about not breast feeding. It's such an intensely personal decision, yet people think it's ok just to reprimand strangers/friends/other mothers what-not about it based on how THEY think.
I have a Mom in my Mom's group that thinks I'm harming my child because she still drinks formula (Enfamil ProSobee Next Step) from a bottle. She drinks 2 a day usually. So between the bottle and the formula, I'm apparently doing irreparable damage. ;) She was switching to a sippy cup a few months ago, but she was hospitalized right around that time and in that month lost 5 pounds (she had a bumpy month). She couldn't keep ANY food down for over 2 weeks and all we got in her was formula through a bottle (if that). So we have not forced the issue - she's just now gotten to her previous weight, 3 or so months after being hospitalized!
Her pediatrician said she'd prefer she'd drink from a sippy cup, but right now the most important thing is that she gets the extra nutrition from her formula to get her back on track. She HATES the liquid soy milk. She also hates all flavored milk. She actually likes regular milk, but we give it in mucho mucho moderation considering how violently she reacted to it when she was born. (Her pediatrician wanted us to slowly reintroduce milk/milk products to see if she can handle them.) |

| Re: What are your goals for stockpiling? This last year, I've given more serious thought to food storage and stockpiling and slowly started. Then, in March when Albertson's cereal deal came around, I did my first major stockpile.
Since then, I started couponing and purchasing more long-term food storage stuffs... like unground wheat and other grains (I bought a wheat grinder a while back) and dry milk.
Just looking at our economy, just freaks me out a bit. Runs on rice even though there's no shortage, 80% increase in food prices in the last three months... gas prices... it all adds up and just worries me to death because I've got 4 little mouths to feed beyond my own and DH's...
So, given that, I think I have enough dry milk, wheat, and beans, canned veggies, for 6+ months. I have other misc. food items in cans for at least 4 mos, with exception to milk. (Ever since my fav loaf of bread sky rocketed from under $2 to over $3, I have not purchased hardly any bread, just try to stick to making it).
Other things, laundry soap, fabric softener, household cleaners, toothpaste & brushes, shampoo, conditioner, hair stylers, and soap, I have probably about 2 years worth. And 6 mos tp. |
