Just curious but... If you don't coupon, why are you here? And I see no such shelf at Lowes. Maybe it's a local thing?
Yep, we stockpile, but do it thru mostly canning and salvage groceries. I'm a huge fan of the .15 cent cart!!!

I'm currently expanding my stockpile and storage capabilites. Lowes has a 5 rack shelf with a 150 lb/shelf capability that's $30 on sale right now.
Nice to meet you all!

NP! I'm here because I LOVE to talk about and find out other methods of stockpiling. Most of those places, I'm finding as I look for them, are couponing sites. This was the first forum I found talking specifically about stockpiling and i jumped at the opportunity! :-)

sounds like you're off to a great start but if you hang around here I bet you'll catch the coupon bug.![]()
You shop at salvage stores to stockpile? if they are anything like the ones around here you are stocking things that are already expired by the date on them that is. I am not big on expire dates but I dont buy expired items to add to my stockpile.
I use to buy food/ect from them before I learned to coupon. Now I get in date,no dent cans, tore boxes ect for less than I paid at those places most of the time.
I understand you wantting to talk to others that stockpile so please understand that we on here are out to save all we can. Buying items that are expired or really close to it to save is not what most of use do to add things to our stockpile. We wont long dates so it will last longer for us. If the date is already out then that is less time we have to use the item before it becomes bad(not saying its out of date so it no good).
I feel that if you read read and hang around here you will see that coupons can save you more than the salvage stores with better dates on the items.

The queen of April Fools was here.
We have sold at auction houses. That may be a place for you to hunt groceries. My stuff was in date - just stuff the inlaws didn't want.
I used 2048 q's FEB 2011 because of SFShopper

The queen of April Fools was here.,,,< I like it so it stays
The salvage groceries we shop at are typically scratch & dent, rather than the expired places. It's usually new, just not pretty.

Yep. I love me the .15 cent cart. I recently scored about 20 cans of organic cranberry sauce @ .15 cents apiece. They were DOM of middle of October 2011, but it looked like the case got thrown around & they all got dented. I have no problem with dented.
We don't get coupons in our paper (I've got a paperboy son), just the store inserts, which we do shop. Our paper is too small... Otherwise we probably would coupon!
:-)

I don't personally feel it is safe to eat from a dented can. Yes, I know cans seem to dent more easily these days. If I were buying something and the dented can were my fault I would eat it either that day or the day after. But I would never knowingly buy a dented can or expired food for any price.
