Why not tp and tissues? Just curious why you chose food. =)
Pretend you are a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids aged 6 yo, 5 yo, and 3 months). You are given a large wad of cash to buy a three month supply of food, etc. You live in the perfect climate for storing food and have your own home with a storage room, complete with shelves. What would you buy?

I need to know a couple of things before I answer. You said that I'm supposed to buy a 3 month supply of food. Is this because I won't be able to go to a store (or won't have any money) for the next three months? Or, am I building a stockpile with the money...and I'll still be able to go to the store as usual. In other words, is this EXTRA money, or is it the ONLY money?
The money is a gift. It is extra and the only thing you can spend it on is your stockpile. Yes, this includes tp and dish soap.
And, yes. This has happened to me.

Do you have a stockpile now? And if so, what do you already have, etc.?
Does the baby use formula?
P.S. How cool!!

I buy from what is on sale. The stockpile sales cycle thread should show what deals are coming or are already here.
In my area it's ready to eat things like chefboyaree, hormel completes, canned meat on sale now. Plus cereal and kiddie lunch stuff too.

Tp and paper towels, axe stuff for my teens for its hard to get cheap, capri sun since my twins love them and coupons for them are hard to come by here. A few bogs of night time pull ups for I have one that wets the bed while he sleeps still.
Chicken, steak, bacon, ribs, turkey and a few other meats for coupons are hard to come by for those also.
Then I would stock up on things I have coupons for that I know they will all eat and buy some fresh/frozen/can vegys and fruits.
Of course I would look for sales first also...
I have lots and lots of laundry stuff so I dont need any of that stuff at this time. I have a pretty good stockpile of these things already but a little more would be great IF I had the space and its was someone elses money. I would use my skills tho to get as much as I could with the money.

I would say anything that is hard to come by free or cheap. Meat , toilet paper, paper towels. If I was in that situation that is what i would do. I would look at my stockpile to figure out what things i have nothing of that hardly ever have coupons for and go by that. Maybe if there was enough $$ in that gift to get a deep freezer for coupon sales for more storage options for frozen things.

This is pretty much what I was going to answer. and I totally agree about the freezer. I already have a freezer, but if I had extra money, I'd buy another small one, just for veggies. Then I'd have more room in the big one for meat and seafood. Paper products would be at the top of my list, along with contact lens solution. I always run out on a week that I'm low on cash! If I had a dog or cat, I'd stock up on food for them. Bottled juices, baking supplies (flour, sugar, cooking oil, spices, etc.), olive oil. I'm very well-stocked on laundry stuff, but if I wasn't, I'd stock up on it too. Also, if I was a coffee drinker, I'd stock up on it too.
With the meat...Is idaho a NBPN state? You could double dip with that and get your money to go even farther!
