    BLUSH My Stockpile collapsed!!

Came home this evening and went into my "Stockpile closet" to add laundry detergent I'd purchased yesterday ($3.99 at Kroger before $2/1 MQ and $0.50/1 Kroger Q making them $1.49 ea!) and found that the shelves on which I'd been storing my new stockpile had collapsed. I guess I underestimated the weight of 16 2-ltr sodas (free!!) and 30 bottles of SOBE Pure water ($0.75/ea). Luckily no damage to anything. Guess I'll have to use some of my savings to install Elfa shelving (on sale in October!!)
Oh well.... storing the heavies on the floor until then.

I had that happen once in the basement. I think I heard it but didn't know what I heard. My son was home and said something too. A few hours later I went downstairs to get something. The metal shelf kind of like twisted and bent over. I had jars of spaghetti sauce about midway up.That was a mess. Like you now all the heavy stuff is on the lowest shelf.

I'm so sorry! I've seen even my wire grid shelving sag at times and think "oh no! I have to reorganize this!" .

It is amazing how heavy liquids are though. All those things are on the floor now in all the storage areas - won't make that mistake!!!

Luckily, no spillage. The mouth of two of the bottles of water were crushed, but no leaks. They're now in the frig waiting to be drunk (drank, drinked LOL!)

Oh, bummer!! That also happened to the wire (white) rod and shelfing in my closet. It pulled right out of the wall. My husband had to rehang them slightly higher and add extra supports between the original ones that came with the closet system. I also started pulling out the off season clothes and storing them somewhere else.

The floor sounds like a good place until you get sturdier shelves. Glad there was no damage.

Glad nothing broke! One of the worse messes I ever saw in my life was when I was working at K Mart. I don't know whose idea this was but they built a new stockroom for paint and the like. I can't remember what kind of shelving they put along the one wall but obviously not strong enough. There was this huge loud noise that brought the store manager running. He ran straight into the room, slipped on the spilled paint and fell down. Luckily he wasn't injured but he was totally covered in paint, much to our amusement because he wasn't well liked. The people who had to clean it up where not happy!

Another bad mess at the same place was when the top shelf on the pickle aisle gave way. As it went down it took all the other shelves with it. I was up at the checkouts when I heard the commotion. Then I smelled the vinegary aroma. Customers were screaming and fleeing. Sooo much pickle juice came flooding towards the deli taking loose pickles and broken glass along with it.

The only real problem I remember havnig at home was when I was living in a crappy apartment above a dance studio. The rent was super cheap and it was pretty big for an apartment. But it was on a very busy street. The bathroom was tiny and there was no storage in there except for a couple of shelves above the tub. Plenty of storage really but hard to get to. I needed a place to put things that I used every day. Like shampoo. So I bought this little corner shelving unit that was held floor to ceiling by tension. Bad design because there was only the one pole and all it took was a bus or large truck to go by. The building would vibrate a bit and there would go my shelf, hurling bottles into the tub. I solved the problem by putting a couple of cup hooks into the wall and tying something around them to keep the shelf held there. I can't remember what I used now but probably ponytail holders.

That stinks! My shelves have bowed and leaned, never toppled or broken. Of course now I've just jinxed myself just by saying that. What almost did me in was a time period of mm progresso soup and either free or mm Ragu, at the same time.
