Default I'm so excited!!!!! But need advice on stockpile storage

I started couponing about 18 months ago but living in an apartment I had to be creative on where to put my stockpile and even then I couldn't come home with tons of stuff. I moved to a house 2 weeks and started my search for shelving. Our new place has a storage room where our washer and dryer are but plenty of space for my stockpile!

I was lucky enough to find 2 of these on Craigslist for $25 for both!!!

NOW here's where I need the advice. I'm in FL so it's hot AND the dryer is in there so it does get pretty hot in there. What shouldn't I store in there? We also have bugs (YUCK) so I was pretty much thinking NO FOOD out there. Any suggestions?

    TIA!!!

I probably wouldn't put the dish washing detergent in there if you find it's getting humid.

For the bugs...not sure if you have pets...but you can put roach powder directly behind the washer and dryer where obviously little kiddo's can't get to it. That stuff kills just about everything.

first take care of the bugs! then start stockpile some things that you use. You can put dry foods and maybe can foods in there but nothing that needs to be at a cooler temp so it dont melt or spoil.

by the way that was a good on the shelf, i paid $43 a pice for mine like that...you will need to line it with something smoothing so things will sit on it or stuff will just fall over really easy

It gets very humid in there, but I'm assuming you mean the powder for the dishwasher? Sadly, my new place does not have a dishwasher. So I don't have to worry about it.

We just got a bug guy come out and he put out bait for the bugs. Hopefully, that will work, but I'm thinking just in case not to keep food out there? Our kitchen is seriously itty bitty. There is NO room for food in the kitchen cabinets. Our food is in a closet in the hallway. LOL Instead of a regular sized kitchen with a dishwasher, we have a HUGE room that the kids share. It works for us.

Oh and those shelves will bend a bit under the weight. The more even the weight is on the shelves the better they will be at not bending.

The bugs are those big roaches-Palmetto Bugs-I shiver whenever I think about them! Could they get into the dry foods? And because of the heat could those affect the canned goods?

I already have a TON of health/beauty items. I don't see any issue with any of that going out there though. And of course, the laundry stuff can go out there since that is where it belongs anyway.

I know! I am stoked. DH got us one to put our entertainment stuff (dvd player, dvd's, etc.) and he paid around $50 I think. Those were exactly what I was looking for and I knew he wasn't going to pay full price, and I didn't want to either, so pretty much thanking God I ran across these!

The cans are better in the cool then heat, BUT if you have no choice just don't stockpile too much. The humidity will rust them.

Oh, palmetto bugs! How I hate them. I grew up in Wisconsin, moved to SC when my DH was in the Air Force and stationed there, and discovered those things. We don't have icky roaches on steroids (that's what I call them) up here. Ugh.

Anyway, what I did was to keep my dry goods in a plastic tote or something, sealed, to keep those nasties out. Ick ick ick. Now I'm crawling just remembering!
