Anyway, what I did was to keep my dry goods in a plastic tote or something, sealed, to keep those nasties out. Ick ick ick. Now I'm crawling just remembering!

I haven't seen those big ol' roaches in TX but I'm careful about stockpiling because of bugs as well. I've been looking into getting a cheap vacuum sealer since nothing can live without oxygen and some of the sealers work with recycled jars since I'm not planning on buying the special bags.

For now, I'm putting rice and flour in the freezer and just scored a bunch of protein bars from Kroger that are also in the deep freeze. Yeah, the heat, humidity and bugs can be a real problem for a stockpile!

FYI - I got something about 5 years ago called a Pump-n-Seal. It was around $20.00 and has worked really well for me. In fact, I just opened some white rice that I sealed in a recycled Ragu jar about 4 years ago. It was still air tight and bug free! They have these little seals that you're supposed to use with the product but I found that I could make my own out of electrical tape! HTH
Always ISO: tea, pasta, cat food & litter (Friskies is their fave!), produce, pasta sauces. laundry soap, household cleaners, batteries, etc.

Wow! That's good to know that it holds a seal for that long and that electrical tape works too. Thanks!

Nice deal on the shelves. Don't go crazy and overload them, and put heaviest stuff on bottom. THey will bend & tip over.
