Thanks for the charts. I am going to print this pout and keep in my coupon binder to remind myself. I sometimes do get lured in by the BOGO deals, but since joining here I am much more informed and don't fall off the wagon so often.
I stockpile just about any Moneymakers, even if I don't need it. I give it away. Like the St. Ives last week - I got 60 bottles. What were they... $3.99??(not sure now)..then I had a $2/1 and a BOGO so I got 2 for $1.99 and got a $5 RR. I rolled into Fusion gift packs - got my $ RR and started over. I got WAG laundry detergent as fillers so I could use the $4 RR.
I think I am addicted to RR! Do I need an intervention?

I've been couponing for 25 years and until I came to HCW, I'd never seen "Buy X, Get X Free" written as "BOGO," which makes no sense. Why does everyone persist in using a term that's not descriptive? It's B1G1F or B2G1F or even B1G½F.

Buy 1, Get 1 @ half off is a weird kind of marketing pitch. Yet it's used so often now I can't help but wonder why. It must be an effective marketing tool.

I think part of the problem is that people focus on the how the deal sounds -- saving 50% off 1 item -- rather than how much is spent over all -- Full price on one plus half as much again for the second. Doesn't sound like much of a deal in the end. Unless, of course, you're couponing on top of the deal.

I have noticed, at least at Wags, that on B1G1 they will only take 1 coupon, but on B1G1-50% they will take 2 coupons.

I think the BOGO might have originated from a sales pitch that a shoe store did a few years ago and it was actually pronounced bo-go and everyone knew what a BOGO meant.

I think your right, and if I'm not mistaken, Payless Shoe Store started all the "hoopla" about BOGO for a seasonal back-to-school sale a few years back.

Probably a dumb question but I have to ask.

If an item is on sale for B1G1, and I have a coupon for B1G1, would they both be free or would that be wasting the coupon??

Thanks!

I love it when you guys write like this cuz it helps me figure it out. I'm new, more-or-less mathematically challenged and well, yes, it helps me out.

But I still don't understand this one though:
If there's a BOGO sale on deoderant and so you buy 6 but you have 6 coupons BOGO and you pick up 12 you get 12 free deoderants. Cuz let's say each SALE and each COUPON are separate even when it's on the same TRANSACTION, what would I say to her if a clerk told me I had to give her $ and not just coupons? What do you experienced guys say to gently make it clear?
