I need you guys to come 'teach me' oh wise ones. I can barely seem to find the time to seperate the family packs of meat into smaller packages before throwing them in the freezer. Let alone spend 3 hours cooking it before freezing it.

I do have the freezer space now if only I could find the time and motivation to cook that much. (I'm not a person that actually enjoys cooking, I just do it to keep DH sane)

Wow! .99/lb is a great price!

I just pd. 1.49/lb. for mine. I got 30 lbs this time and made 48 HB patties and divided the rest into meal size pkgs for tacos, spaghetti, etc.

I've made spaghetti sauce ahead of time and froze it, but never thought to do it with taco meat. Thanks for the idea!

We have some fantastic cooks on this board. I love to snag their ideas! Im going to fine jane4girls blog post about mini meatloafs in muffin pans to make in a few days cuz that sounded like something the kids and the hubs would love!
Just find the few things your fam loves and instead of making enough for one meal, make lots and boy does it save you time in the end. Once you have a few easy nites, finding the gumption to make 50 or 100 meatballs is much easier.

I do love to cook, but just as often as not, I am running around, later than I plan coming home etc. so the desire to have some good homemade ready to thaw and eat food inspires me more than the love of cooking LOL.

I have a really easy recipe for make ahead mini pizza meatloaves. I got it couple of years ago from a Taste of Home cookbook. Hubby would never eat meatloaf before, now he requests it. And it's good way to use up some of the Stove Top I got for free a while back, since the recipe calls for 1 cup added to the meat mixture.

I just finished packaging 24 lbs last week.

Coming to mind is (and you don't need to pre-cook the gb):
1) spaghetti
2) shipwreck with beans
3) meat loaf
4) poor mans salisbury steak
5) chili
6) hamburger patties
7) pastitsio
8) meat balls with maranara, or swill meat balls, either one works
9) beef stroganoff (or hamburger helper stroganoff if DH is cooking)
10) cheesy hashbrowns & beef (sounds nasty, tastes yummy)
11) Taco meat
12) brown some ground and throw it in the rice cooker with a package, or two, of rice-a-roni (spanish or beef works best) I don't really have a name for this, it's just something I stumbled onto a hundred years ago when I was first married.

BTW, I never pre-cook my gb, but I do have to remember to pull it out of the freezer. :shrug7:

That's all for now.

wow 33 lbs.... that's a whole lot of ground beef. I just bought a side of top sirloin today and that set me back 34 dollars for 14 lbs.

I did however find ground beef at a local market for $.74/lb! I stocked up a bit. I'm not huge on ground beef as I used to eat it with every dinner as a kid.

I don't know what state you live in, but in Illinois we have Jewel/Osco.

Every year they have a freezer sale. This past February I bought a second one, wasn't a real big one, but still a decent size, for $149.99 and got $150.00 worth of coupons with it for free food products!

Here is a link just for research as to hwo the program works:

Freezer Sale at Jewel Osco | Common Sense With Money

I had to literally talk my son into buying one for himself, and just last night we were over there and he was saying how it was the best thing he ever did was get that freezer!

Save up a little money each week and start setting it aside now and the next time they have the freezers on sale, you will be all set to go!

A freezer is not just convenient, but a real saving tool!
