CHAT What did you think you went overboard on, but...

I love all the discussion threads on various aspects of stockpiling.

My question is... Has there been some deal that you totally stocked up on to the point that you thought you had gone way overboard, but later started running out of so that you wished you had gotten more?

For me it was the $0.09 tuna at Target. Last September there was a Target $0.50/1 coupon that you could print unlimited copies and get the regular cans of tuna for about nine cents, depending on the regular price at your Target. My Target kept selling out, but I got them 8 at a time whenever I could find them on the shelf.

We were eating them as I was buying them (the coupon had a 4 week window), but at the end I had over 60 cans on the shelf. I thought wow, I must be crazy.

But now that I'm down to 23 cans I fear I will run out and never find a deal like that again here in the land of no doubles.

They don't expire until July 2010--so consuming 6 cans a month, that will last us another 4 months or until July 2008... so for 2 more years or 48 months, I could have gotten 288 more.

My, uh, perspective has changed since last September.

I think I saw some $1.50/3 coupons for Starkist tuna over in the trade forum.

For us, it is always peanut butter. I always under-estimate our consumption.

I SERIOUSLY stocked up on the free Peter Pan last year, buying as many as I thought we could use before the expiration date.

Boy was I wrong. I only have one (!!!) jar left.

Shampoo - July 2006, dubbed the "summer of hair". I got over 200 bottles of shampoo and conditioner free/moneymaker and stupidly gave away probably half of it. Now DH and I coast along 10-15 bottles of each, trying to pick up good clearance deals AC as we can. I don't mind sharing, but I'll never give away that much of something that never goes bad again.

Fuze the last time it was on sale and free AC. I only got like 20 bottles, and they didn't last very long. I plan on going grocery shopping this weekend alone or telling DH he will be helping me stock up or else no upper for him, lol.

There was a cough drops money maker at Walgreens last fall. No one in my family had used a single cough drop in years, so I only saved two bags and donated the rest... You know where this is going, right? Nasty bug in February hit all of us and left me with a cough that lasted weeks. I nearly used an entire bag by myself.

Campbell's gravy!! The only time they ever have coupons in the inserts, is during the winter holiday season. I traded for every coupon I could get! And I hit every store in our are when they had sales. I was getting gravy for 5 cents a can!! I was really feeling like I had gone wayyyyy overboard, but I'm running out!

Old El Paso shells/tortilla kits from Kroger. I got them for about .20 a box and thought it would last me forever. They are good for a long time, and I'm down to just a few!
