Do you mind if ask how many ppl in your family? Not that it matters of course, but I would be worried about how long the food will keep.
I have a family of 6 so I definately need to start stockpiling our supplies. I can only imagine how much I will need as the kids get older. :shopping2:
Please feel free to give me any tips you have. I would love to hear what a pro like you has to share! | Well, technically it's just DH and me right now. But I also often have guardianship of my brothers four children, and recently have had the oldests children...and we entertain quite a bit. And I seem to be the hotline for several friends and organizations with foodbanks/shelters/ abused women and children shelters, etc., so I'm always putting together bags of supplies for people.
I tend to only stockpile things with long shelf lives. Ketchup will last 3 years or so, etc. I have several "stockpile" recipes I use for the more perishable things, like cereal, cake mix, dried fruit, organic/natural, ice cream, yogurt...like a muffin recipe that uses almost anything to make 3 dozen at a time. The baked goods can then go into the freezer.
And I tend to roll part of the savings in to buying the more expensive and perishable things, like fresh produce. For example, I might buy 10 Bisquick Shake 'n' Pour, free after coupons and get a $10 WYB 10 catalina. I don't use the Bisquick very often, but I know someone who loves it...free for me, and I get the $10 back to use on fresh salad for me :)
