I just thought whats for dinner tonight and decided on burgers, but I only have 2 buns but I need 5....well isn't this just perfect!
I made these last week with the filling she uses and they were good but too much bread per filling that way. So Im making these today as just dinner rolls and using later in the week as slice in half sandwhich buns.
Cost of ingrediants:
2 cups milk--use free carnation
1/2 cup butter--Free ICBINB sticks
1 (.25 ounce) package Fleischmans active dry yeast--1.59 - .40/1 double = .79 get back .50 oyno that doubles = .29 $m
6 cups all-purpose flour 1.99 a bag - .29 overage from the yeast = 1.70 but theres about 1 cups per bag so 1/3 of that = .56 cent ish
3/4 cup sugar - not sure on cost but Im sure less than .44
= lesss than $1.0o!

I think if I make these again Ill do the original hamburger recipe and just add more mix to each one. They were okay as plain buns but much tastier as the filled hamburger buns.

I think I am going to give the filled buns a whirl. I wish I could find a good hamburger BUN recipe they never seem to rise high enough for me to cut them and have a good top and bottom to hold the burger.

Actually she says to divide into 12 rounds and then fill 6 of them and use the other 6 for lids...so
1lb of meat divided by 6, aint a whole lot of meat per burger...Needless to say, I will be putting more filling and have less burgers.
6 cups of flour, wow that is a lot of dough for 1 lb of meat!
I looked up the recipe on Allrecipes.com and they have the original Taste of Home recipe...It explains a lot.
2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees F to 115 degrees F)
3/4 cup warm milk (110 to 115 degrees F)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
8 slices American cheese, quartered
I think I will still use her bread recipe just cut it in half (recipe is found on Allrecipes too easier to have them cut it in half and print it out). I only have 1lb of meat thawed and 2lbs woudl be too much for a family of 3. I think I will add ketchup to my burger meat though.

Ok, I made them pretty much the way she said (I used Smart Balance 50/50 sticks I had gotten for free), except I didn't use all the dough I had enough left to make 5 dinner rolls (my 2 kids would eat them). I also added a squirt of ketchup to each one before I put them the top circle on. I have to say YUMMY! I will most definately make them again. I did what she suggested and made one circle bigger and tucked it under. None of mine leaked out...but I can most definately see what you are saying about too much bread. I made mine into 6 rolls, they were HUGE after they had risen. I wanted to try and get as much meat into each as I could. I originally thought I could do 4 but there was too much meat. I definately used more than 1-2T for filling I used more like 1/4-1/3 of a cup each. I am not sure had I rolled it any thinner it would have held up to the packaging part. None the less they were great and I just finished eating one for lunch today (warmed up they were just as good!). This bread recipe is nice, it holds together nice unlike other homeade bread recipes. I am glad I clicked your link.
I also wanted to add, these would be great with Sloppy Joe/Manwich as a filling.
