Such great ideas. I buy white bread too for DH and the kids I keep wont touch Whole Wheat. I could use the regular white bread for croutons.

    Brilliant!

Though its not a problem with us. I like using the ends for french toast. A couple of times my kids saw me specifically grabbing the ends out of the bag for my french toast & now they want them too.

I always save the ends in their bags, tie a knot in the bag, cut off the extra plastic and throw them in the freezer. Whenever I make meatloaf, or stuffing, I grab out a few little bags and tear up the bread. It always makes the meatloaf more moist, I think.

makes great bread pudding too, or make your own bread crumbs

Diva - I love your idea! I do what my mom always did - have one bread bag in the freezer and add them as you get to them. When the bag was full, she would make Torn-up french toast with them. That always saved the squabbling of siblings not wanting to share 1/2 a slice. The problem is that they get freezer burnt for us - so I'll have to start "double bagging" them with your trick!

    Here is my recipe
I use an electric fry pan (why? because my mom did! lol) - actually it is nice and wide and evenly distributes the heat, but you could use a large skillet

First, I preheat the pan to med - I usually have some water in it just so I'm not heating a dry pan. While its heating, I slice up an unpeeled apple (or 1/2) and throw those in to soften them. Then I get my bread (about 12 slices at least) out of the freezer and start tearing it into chunks (like 1x2) and dropping them into the pan. (make sure apples aren't caramelizing) When done, I stir them around. Then I crack about 8 eggs in a bowl, add 1/3 c. milk or so, some REAL Mexican vanilla and a tablespoon or so of cinnamon and mix. Pour on top of bread, stir to coat. Stir with a flipper-skipper (I can say that with a straight face) to make sure your scraping everything off the bottom. Stir several times until done ( about 10 min).

serve with syrup or sprinkled with sugar.
We NEVER have leftovers of this! It doesn't matter HOW much I make! -- I usually use more bread than I do for traditional french toast - at least 2-3 slices

These are great ideas everyone! Yes, I usually do the sneaky sandwich trick with them so I don't have a lot of ends, usually.
