I'm hoping someone can give me a definite answer about this, as I keep get conflicting information from Staples employees & customer service.

According to some Staples employees, when you use a Competitor's Q, it reduces the price of each item (I know that's true). They claim that if cost of the item is dropped to less than the rebate amount, then your rebate will be rejected and you won't receive it. I've tried testing, but still am waiting to see if my rebates go through:

My plan this week, was to buy
2 Reams of Paper for $9.98
    2 4x6 photo paper for $19.98
    6 notebooks
    =$30.02
-$10/$30 OD Q (I don't have any problem with my Staples accepting these)
    = $20.02 OOP

But each ream paper would be reduced to $2.49 each, and since that price is lower than the $4.98 Rebate Staples is giving, they say my rebate will be rejected.

    Is that true?

I think that depends to how ur staples uses ur coupon. For instance i have a staples that deducts the coupon savings amount from usually the most expensive item i have for instance last week I purchased ream paper which was supposed to be for free any ream. So i purchased 2 reams of paper which were $17. 99 each. The a.m. Came to the register to deduct $10 off OD q and among all my items he found the 2 ream paper and deducted $5 each which brought my total for each paper to $12.99 and that is how much I am going to get as a reward :( So for me the only good thing was to pay less oop, but I couldn't make money. I had some rewards/ rebates where I was refunded for the full amount sometimes and other times my coupons and discounts were deducted and I still couldwnt figure out when/ why? Some rewards/ rebates warn u that u will receive only the amount u paid after all coupons and discounts so make sure that u read the fine print.

    Good luck!

Love, love, love these paper deals!

    HammerMill CopyPlus copy paper, 500 sheet ream, Limit 2 per HH, $6.79 - $1.80 instant savings - $4.98 Easy Rebate = $.01

I buy them every week - stockpiling for the year ahead. I have 13 reams of paper in supply now, but paper doesn't go bad

Rewards and Rebates work completely differently; so they really can't be compared.

For rewards, using a coupon reduces the rewards amount.

For rebates, you can use a coupon and still receive the entire rebate amount. I have verified this with the photo paper in June. I used a competitor coupon and got the full amount back.

How do Staples coupons and rebates contribute to the Staples price?
When calculating a price match, we’ll deduct any available Staples coupons, Staples Rebates (instant, easy or mail–in) and manufacturer rebates from the Staples price to arrive at a net price. For example, if you buy an item from us for $100 and we offer a $20 instant rebate, the net price is $80. If another company’s price is $80 or more, we will not match the price. Another example: if you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon, the net price is $129. If another company’s price is $125, your price match would be $4.

Will Staples match another company’s price when combined with an instant rebate, mail–in rebate, gift check or gift card,or free or discounted item?
We’ll match another company’s final price after deducting an instant rebate. If another company offers a product that comes with a mail–in rebate, gift check, gift card or an equivalent, we will only match the price you pay at the point of purchase and will not take the mail–in rebate, gift check, gift card or equivalent into account. If another company offers a product that comes with a free or discounted item and Staples does not carry the free or discounted item, we will only match the price you pay at the point of purchase and will not take the free or discounted item into account.

You are exactly right that rewards and rebates are different. The Q's definitely reduce the reward amount. I'm glad to hear that you got your rebates even after using a competitor Q! I'll ignore the employees and just ask them to take the Q. Thank you!!
