There are two different programs with Staples: Easy Rebates AND Rewards

You can use rewards to pay for rebate items.
You can NOT use rewards to pay for rewards items.

You can use rebate giftcards/checks to pay for rebate items.
You can use rebate giftcards/checks to pay for rewards items. (YMMV)

It's always best to not use any coupons, discounts, promotions, etc on 100% rewards items.
