QUESTION 2 questions on other stores Gift cards sold at Staples

Question #1 - Does Staples sell Target gift cards in their stores in that area that sells other stores' gift cards?

If the answer to that is yes, than question #2 - Can I use my Staples gift cards to pay for that Target gift card?

I've got about $100 in Staples gift cards and am working on getting my Staples card collection built up enough to buy a 8gb Ipod Touch. Target has them on sale this week for $195 and get a $20 Target gift card wyb it, so I think that I'm just going to go buy it there this week. Our tax refund check came in on Monday and I'm going to justify the extra $95 as my Mother's Day present from my kids (lol - dh will love it as it'll mean he won't have to go shopping!) But if I can't redeem my Staples cards for Target cards, I'm going to have a harder time justifying me spending $195 while I'm still sitting on $100 in Staples gift cards.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You are not able to buy other gift cards with Staples gift cards.

    Thanks kval!

I thought that was going to be the answer - but I was hoping!

You realize that Staples coupons usually don't exclude iPods, and you can get $25/$100 in-store coupons on eBay fairly easy...like here. (Make sure you get the ones that work in-store...and don't puchase the coupon until the day you use it.)

    $199.99 - 8GB iPod
    -$25.00 - $25/$100 coupon
$174.99 + tax (tax will be calculated on $174.99)

All your savings is upfront...no $20 more to spend to get your discount. And depending on your tax rate, you should come out slightly ahead, even when adding the $1.47 for the coupon...since you'll be paying tax on $195 at Target. My tax rate is 8%, so that would be an additional $1.60 at Target.

...plus, you'll get to use that $100 Staples card.

EDIT - To save even more, order it online and use a $30/$150 online coupon...like here. That coupon is more expensive, but it will save you another $2. Every little bit counts. Although personally, I'd do it in-store.

I don't think I saw Target gift cards at my Staples. I saw Bed, Bed & Beyond, Starbucks, Macys, Gap, Old Navy, Subway, and some others that I don't remember.

Thanks for the input! I'm in New Hampshire so no sales tax at all for me to work around.

My gift cards were good in-store only so your online scenario wouldn't have worked for me.

Either way it worked out ok - I ended up buying the Ipod at Target, got the $20 gift card, which I then used on a couple of pair of shorts and a shirt - and then went to Stapels and used a couple of my $10 gift cards on some paper which qualifies for the $25 back in Staple Rewards and will hold onto the rest to use for a FAR deal down the road and then I can at least recoup some of the gift card value into cash! I probably could have done better but I'm happy with what I got and what I have left and I'm having a blast with my new Ipod!
