HELP Do You Have A Recipe For A Savory Stew?

I have the following ingredients on hand:

1 lb. cut up stew meat
    1 pint vegetable broth
    Lipton onion soup mix
    1 C. button mushrooms
    Canned chicken stock
    Russet potatoes
    Fresh carrots
    1 qt. home-canned tomatoes

I have a full compliment of herbs and spices. I also have a fully stocked pantry, so, there are other ingredients that I may not necessariy think would go in the stew.

I like slow cooker recipes, but, I will take anything that you are offering.

I don't mind going to the store to pick up another item, if needed.

I make what used to be called Christmas shopping stew. This was before crockpots. I brown the beef , onions and peppers if I have them, peeled potatoes and carrots and a can of tomatoes and a can of broth add water to cover, season according to taste.. The real "secret" to this receipe is to add a tablespoon or two of brown sugar and a tablespoon or two of tapioca. Put in the oven at 275 and bake all day. I don't follow the receipe exactly. It is just an outline. The tapioca gives the stew a nice thickness and the little bit of sugar is really nice. I often add some frozen peas just before serving. I serve it over rice. I also like to put out a loaf of frozen bread and let it rise during the day and then bake just before dinner. The house smells wonderful.

I always just sautee onions and then brown the meat... add whatever veggies you want (the ones you have are fine - mushrooms, carrots & potatoes plus garlic is good) - and then add whichever stock you want of the ones you have - just to cover the veggies - otherwise it will be too soupy and not like stew. the can of tomatoes is good too.... simmer as long as you want - the longer the better

we serve it over wide egg noodles or bowtie pasta
