I saw this as an advertisement over the Smith's gas pump today.

Today I bought a Smith's and a Albertsons gift card. I shop in both stores, we never have double coupons, and we have the worst inserts - so this was an easy way to make a little extra money. I can't get 10% inerest from the bank at this time.

EXACTLY!
I will have DH buy either the $300 or $600 to be used exclusivey for gas. In our town, Smith's is always the best price for gas. It's like getting 10% off gas.

Im thinking about doing it...havent gotten my stimul check yet so before I do it I got to get the money from the IRS.

We were going to go ahead and get one of thier patio sets with the $50 coupon they sent me (need to go look at Kmart first to see if I see anything there that floats my boat better)

But if I did get the one at Smiths it would go something like this I think:

Get a $300 gift card. Smiths gives me and extra $30 bucks.

Get the patio set which is $399 less my $50 coupon = $349. Use my $330 gift card and pay $20 plus tax OOP so I end up getting $80 off my patio set.

Thats not too shabby I suppose.

Too bad - Smith's didn't give me reward points (500 pts = $5) when I purchased the gift card. I did get a few 15 cents off fuel discounts. I know, I will receive the reward points when I spend the gift card.

But I did make another 2% by charging the gift card purchase to my Citi Card.

Still waiting on our stimulus. I will so be doing this. We have a new Smiths WITH fuel center 3 miles from me. They have great gas prices and this, combined with 2% cashback on the CC and 15c register discount it'll be great! Thanks for the reminder on this. We get the IRS check this week (fingers crossed.)

Just so you know, you can't pay at the pump with a gift card. You will have to use the attendant window to pay with your gift card.

Originally, I got the 300 reward points when I bought the gift card, but it was taken away 2 days later. I did get the fuel reward when I purchased it though and then again when I bought my patio set.

So the system took away the GC points, then restored them as you purchased items with the GC? Thanks for the heads up on the attendant requirement at the pump. Now to remember not to go when it's too busy. I just got the pre-stimulus letter yesterday. Now to get that check in and to the bank...

ok-- I spoke with customer service to find out the answer to my question: If you bought 1 Smith's gift card for $300, can you buy more with your club card?
The answer: yes. You can purchase up to $1200 in gift cards in up to 4 separate transactions, but all purchases must be made by July 31st.

On the pay-at-the-pump thing this must be a YMMV thing because our pumps have the option of choosing pay with gift card right on them and I have done it a few times. Sure saves the hassle of taking it to the window. Thanks to everyone for the info on this thread. Saving on gas and groceries sure has been nice. I plan to buy 1 or 2 more cards before the month is over.
