How many days until summer?
We used to live in upstate NY (Scotia/Glenville area near Schenectady) and I agree, Price chopper, Hannaford and Wal-Mart Supercenter could use some competition. None of those stores double coupons. Price Chopper will once in a while. Now we live in North NJ with Shopriteand I don't think I have ever gotten as good deals as I have here.
Hi AM! Small world! I live in Glenville now. PC still doesn't double! I hate Walmart and won't shop there, even if they are giving things away for free. Their customer service is so poor (even from the management) that I am boycotting them. The Glenville PC does now take competitor's coupons...still, I can't WAIT for Shoprite to get here! Hopefully it'll shake things up a bit.

We tried not to go to Wal-Mart if we could help it. The Glenville Price Chopper will take Walgreens RRs-at least they did when I lived there less than a year ago. One per transaction. You'll find some great beer rebates there, too. We don't find any at all here in NJ. I just trade/buy the ones I need. PC does have some good cat deals and some can be MM. It does seem like they are the same all the time-Kraft, Unilever, P &G.
Thanks for posting the corporate conformation nbevins. I have been hearing rumors about Shop Rite coming back to the Albany area for awhile now. Does anyone know specifically where it will be located?
I was just going to ask too. Do we know where it's going?
I think I found our answer DebK. Here's a quick quote from the news article I found:
"The plan could bring the ShopRite chain to an eight-acre Central Avenue site now home to Capital OTB. The redevelopment would result in a new off-track betting parlor and a 65,000-square-foot grocery".
I was just down that way yesterday and I did not notice any construction taking place (not that i was looking, lol). The one article also mentions that ShopRite is planning to open a location in Slingerlands. I also found another news article that mentions that the Wegman's chain is scouting the area for a 2011 store opening. I never even heard of Wegman's but I would welcome them with open arms. The Capital District area really needs more supermarket chain competition. Price Chopper and Hannaford should not have a monopoly over this area.

Thanks for the info. Shoprites used to be in the Albany/Schenectady area. Some of their buildings are still vacant from when they left the first time!
Competion would be good.
