You are quite welcome, DebK! I remember the old ShopRites and I was sad when the chain left our area. My grandmother was a devout ShopRite shopper before they closed their area locations. I remember riding the bus with her to go to ShopRite, even though there was Price Chopper within walking distance, because ShopRite doubled coupons in our area back then. This was back in the late 70's, early 80's, so I guess my nanny was a couponing pioneer, lol. Anyways, I am glad to hear that the chain is coming back to the Capital District. It's sad that some of their former locations have been left vacant for so long. Maybe they will eventually decide to re-open some of these locations in our area. It's much cheaper to remodel an existing retail location than it is to build one from scratch. We can only hope.
How many days until summer?
You do have to look pretty closely sometimes. I have found them over by the seafood (usually a bud or related to it) stuck to the side of a beer box or on their own little display or in produce. They usually have a big coors display over by the orange juice. Also, there is an endcap cooler over across from the milk and sometimes they will have them hanging up there. Hannaford has them too. I found the $25 sheet of Widmers there one year. If you're ever out in the clifton park area, run into the price chopper there and look around in the produce or seafood. I have found different ones there that weren't at the Glenville one. I still usually had to trade for a lot, but at least I did find some, unlike here where we never find any at all, ever.
I visit my family in Latham, NY. I always try to help my mom coupon but there aren't the kind of deals I get at Shoprite. I think this is great news.
Today the TU and Channel 6 reported that Shop Rite was in talks to take over the former GU location in Niskayuna at St. James Square Plaza. I'm so excited, if this happens I'll have a Shop Rite within walking distance of my house by next spring.
Years ago there was a Grand Union that my MIL used to shop at, the store is behind the now vacant Friendlys building. In 2004 when I had moved to Niskayuna a small franchised(?) chain opened in that same location and was closed within I think a year or so and the building has been empty since then.
