Shoprite: HELP!! Vegetarian Food - Deals?

I have a vegetarian coming to live with me for the next year. She mentioned that she likes veggie burgers, veggie nuggets, etc.

I took a quick look at my local Shoprite and didn't see much. Plus the food was kind of expensive.

Does anyone have some suggestions on brands, good deals, coupons for these items and/or other stores that sell them where I might get a deal?

I'm in north jersey and have an A&P, Acme, Pathmark and Walmart within driving distance. Stop and Shop is a possibility, but that is a long drive.

I don't have much to suggest--one of my SR's has a great organic & vegetarian selection, the other not so much. And the vegetarian items tend to be expensive & tend not to go on sale much; there are fewer coupons too.

I know that we're talking organic vs. vegetarian (not the same thing), but there might be some leads on coupons. Otherwise, go to the store & write down brands (Morningstar Farms, Amy's, etc), then write to the companies & request coupons. Ask your guest for info on specific products.

FWIW, I was a lazy vegetarian for a while & subsisted on a lot of pasta, grains, beans, & cheese. You might be able to get far with just regular ol' stuff, just leave out the meat (& read labels carefully for stuff like beef stock & gelatin, which you need to avoid).

In my opinion Morningstar Farms is the best. But BOCA does some good stuff too. Right now there is 1.00 off 2 for BOCA products. If you have a Target near you with a frezer section they might carry Morningstar Farms products if so, they are cheaper than anywhere. Less than 4.00 a box. But, don't feel the need to load up, most meals have other veggie friendly components like the potatoes, salad, rice etc. I usually only eat a frozen patty or other veggie food once every week or two and I have been a veggie for 18+ years. For example tonight I had Pierogies and hot mixed veggies for dinner. Good luck. Oh and Quorn is another veggie frozen food but not all ShopRites carry them. Is your house guest a lacto-ovo vegetarian. ( I think the more common type... they will have dairy and egg products) If so your options are much wider. Vegans have a much more limited choice of foods if they aren't making them from scratch.
