Default Loyal shoprite Shopper with a question

Hello! I've been a lurker for a long time but today I signed up to post a question.

I'm in CT and I've shopped shoprite for over a year now. Until today I've always had postive expierences there. Today I went in to buy the Tuna on sale. I do as I always do, buy 4, cash out, then buy 4 more. I have done this WAY more times than I can count! Anyhow today, the cashier tells me I can't do this! Since when? She said my card can only be scanned once a day. Is this true??? I did tell her that, firstly, tell ALL the cashiers that because I do this almost weekly. Second, a limit of 4 for my large family is rediculous.

I have another question. (Somehow today I got the cashier that decides to follow ALL the rules???) I wanted to buy the suave on sale. My coupon expired on Sunday however, I just played dumb like I didn't notice and handed it over. It scanned. THEN she happens to notice that the coupon is expired and puts the $1 back on my bill! How come if its scanned she can't take it? Any other store will have thier registers beep when they can't take a coupon, if its expiered for instance. I HAVE used expired coupons there before, so whats the deal??? Does anyone know?

    Hello,

I haven't heard about any limits on the number of times you can use your SR card, that's a first. As far as expired coupons, I don't think that we can discuss using expired coupons at a supermarket unless we know for sure that the supermarket accepts expired coupons.
Call and speak to the store manager or director and ask if they accept expired coupons. If not, then the cashier was doing the right thing. However, sometimes the cashier is not aware that the store may accept expired coupons.

My local SR takes expired coupons up to an entire year after they expire but a lot of the cashiers are not aware of this so when I give it to them they think that I am trying to pull a fast one. I explain to them that I would not use them if I wasn't fully aware that the store did not accept them. So I wait for them to double check. It comes as a suprise for a lot of cashiers. But please check with your store first.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for your help. I really do NOT think there is a limit on how many times you can use your shoprite card, dh and I have the same# and we both shop at diffrent times. This was an absolute first as I've said, I've done this many many times. I've even done things like buy the item that gives you the cash back coupon, cash out, then apply the coupon to the rest of my groceries. No one has ever told me that was legal. And as far as I'm concerned, this is 4 per transaction, not 4 per card right???? No one has been told otherwise?

Last week, I went to get the Ben and Jerry's on sale and there were NONE in the store. So I said to the kid stocking a freezer, Where are they? He said "Oh some guy came in this am and bought all of them" (the flipped outs) I was like, UH I thought there was a limit of 4??" Kid shruggs his shoulders and goes 'I don't know' I relayed that to the cashier and she said, "oh no that couldn't happen. there is no way he could take that many out at one time." Whatever....

    Couponmom2008's right.

The number of transactions is limited by the store. In the FAQ for this forum I mention that some stores have no problem with the number of repeat transactions, while others do. Perhaps your store recently changed the rules. Perhaps your cashier transferred from a store that did restrict the number. Perhaps she made up the rule. Or perhaps the rule always existed but the other cashiers never enforced it. The only way to know is to ask the front end manager (FEM) or other manager. They might know at the courtesy desk, but I've gotten conflicting answers from there on other issues.

Now the use of the expired coupon is a bigger problem because that is considered fraud. It doesn't matter why it scanned, the fact is you knowingly tried to use it in spite of the expiration. For future reference, use of coupons against their terms or store policy (wrong items, past expiration, etc) is not OK & discussion of such is against HCW's rules, which can & will result in a warning and infractions. In other words, keep it clean.

Now there are a rare few Shoprite stores that do permit the use of expired coupons, but it sounds like you suspected that your store wasn't among them. And it wasn't. In the future, if you aren't sure what the store permits, ask first.

ETA: now that said, don't go back into the shadows! Continue to post--this forum's only as good as its members & IMHO, we have the best on HCW!

    Thank you :)

its just so hard for me cuz Shoprite is not nearby. I do go weekly, but its not like I can just drop by and rebuy stuff on a daily basis. I try to buy everything I need in one trip. Like I said I usually have a good time there, but that just frustrated me yesterday.

There are several things I'll just go to Walmart and pricematch. Much easier since they are less than 3 miles from my house, and shoprite is about 12. LOL

I'll try to post more often, but I do like this shoprite forum! Its very helpful, thank you for keeping on top of the deals!
