Hi,

I just wanted to post to thank you all for the tips on this weeks deals! I've been reading this for a few weeks now and thanks to all of you I have saved a ton of $.

I did about 30 transactions this week with rolling the soup and the GM offers and now have a ton of stuff in the pantry and even took a big pile (we did 1 double roll just for them) to the local food bank.

You have changed the way I plan to shop from now on! Not to mentioned, helped me to stun my husband with the savings!

thanks so much!

oh and Darlene, I believe it was 1 for the fruit roll-up and 1 for the granola bars ;)

Right, it's one for the fruit rolls-ups and one for the granola bars. Except I thought that it was for Nature Valley granola bars, not Quaker, double check your cat it should say on there what it was for. I've done the same deal a couple of times. I don't know how thrilled the food pantry is to get fruit snacks, but I'm hoping someone will take them.

I was told by my local food pantry, that they do infact use the fruit snacks.

They have the 'regular' foods and then they have a shelf for the 'other' stuff. Other stuff meaning, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, fruit snacks, etc. Everyone is allowed a few items from the 'other' shelf if they feel they want or need it.

I am happy donating these, it could mean the difference between some kind of snack in a lunch box versus having nothing.

slippies, that's my thought too, but I know the food pantries want staples and protein. So my hope is that if I provide some of the 'other' stuff, that means they can spend THEIR money on the products that they want. I know at my local school they will take boxes of granola bars or fruit snacks for the kids who forget to bring a snack, or who just don't have one. I just wonder sometimes if they look at my boxes and think 'what is she sending this junk for?'

Giving to the school is a good idea!

I don't think they look at your boxes and think "what is she sending this junk for". The volunteers that distribute the food see what we don't see..the people in line. The young child who says..mommy or daddy please can we have one of those fruit snacks. Or the mohter or father who thinks, I am grateful for the fruit snacks, now I have something to put in Johnny's lunch box.

Never worry about what you are donating (except expiration dates), your donation means something to someone, somewhere. You should feel good, you are doing good deeds!

I help out at a food panrty. At least here, they LOVE to get things like fruit snacks and sugared cereal. Kids do NOT want to feel different and when they go to school or whatever, to have things like that, they are able to feel like other 'normal' children.

I was gonna say my parents get plenty o cake mix, frosting and other sugary baking items from their food pantry when they have gone. It kind of surprises me sometimes, but they have a good balance.

There is a difference between giving out healthy stuff and allowing a child to be ostracized because all they have is weird organic stuff noone has ever heard of. Fruit snacks go over great since all kids like snacks.

I don't give to the food banks, but I do give to my mom or my sister and her 3 kids. My mom doesn't have time to do the deals because she works so much, so I am more than happy to share with her. =)
