Default help me figure this one out please?

My Shaw's trip yesterday.. I did 4 transactions...

I got

8 jars of planter's nuts
1 package kraft Select cheese
3 kraft bbq sauces
3 Kraft salad dressings
4 Jars vlassic garlic select pickles
6 tubs of tribes hummus
4 bags tostoto's chips
2 tostotio's salsa's
6 bags of marshmallows
1 box honey bunches of oats
2 Oscar Mayer beef bologona
2 oscar mayer hot dogs
2 bags of salad greens
1 container of blueberries
1 container of strawberries
3 pounds of bananas
a pile of koolaide.

the marshmallows produced the catalina, as did tostatio's chips and salas and all cats rolled forward towards the next order.

I've got to go back to shaw's though.. I had a brand new, young casher.. he didn't scan my Shaw's card on my 2nd and biggest transaction.. so I'm owed $16.16 .

I had trouble on my first order.. he tried charging me $42, he got flustered when the shaw's $5 off 10 products was giving him problem, the marshmallows were adding huge amounts of money to the total.. we got that straight.my first order was $6 and change and generated $8 back in cats.

My second order was $16.56 in cash after coupons and after cats... real high I thought but I had my impatient husband calling me yet again on my cell phone. The receipt says I would have saved $16.16 with a shaw's card..he was so flustered he forgot to scan my card.

I called CS and they said to bring the receipts in and they'll fix it. I'll go out there tomorrow

After the $16.16 mistake is fixed my total OOP for the day will be drum roll please.. $11

Ok... I go back out to Shaw's today, show the gal at the CS desk my receipt, give her my store card... she gave me back $34.99???

Mind you, I'm not complaining about basically earning close to $8 for getting all this food but how did they figure I was due $34.99 ?

It would be impossible for us to tell since the prioes on some items are different at every store, but it sure looks like this is an error in your favor.

Possibly they tried to give you some of your items free because they didn't ring up at the rigth price, but more likely just a mistake on their end.

There are perhaps a few folks on this board who will neg rep you and jump up and down and say it's not right of you to keep the amount of overage, and that you should return it or you're being bad or unethical or blah blah blah.

Not me. What I'd suggest is that since you're roughly $20 ahead this time, don't waste any more of your time on it, just remember it the next few times they make a two or three dollar mistake in their favor. It will save you a lot of aggravation.

When I returned to the store I brought ALL my receipts and explained to the manager who helped me exactly what it was that had happened. I did multiple transactions in order to maximise my savings. I was positive about the young cashier, the poor kid was new and flustered by the shaw's $5
coupon but he was nice and I wanted them to know that.

Did I question the amount I was given back? No I didn't, since I was dealing with a middle aged store manager and not one of the young clerks, summer time student help,I assumed the store must have some sort of policy concerning what happens if they fail to scan your store card.

I love a good deal just as much as the next person but I'm no thief.
On the positive side, I hadn't shopped this Shaw's since I moved 5 years ago, the pleasant way I was treated, the lovely organic produce they've got and the great sales means I will make it a point to return there frequently, even though it's several miles further than stop and shop.

Do they double coupons? I know Kroger does and if they don't scan your card then the coupons don't double.

So it would say you would have saved say $16.00 with you card that would just be sales prices not coupons. But if your coupons didn't double you may have been owed more. So that would be why you got more.

Clear as mud? HTH!

Shaw's doubles regardless of your card, unlike S&S.
But they have a policy of doubling up to 6 identical coupons. It means if you had 7+ the same coupons it would double only 6.
