Default wicked large??????????

"wicked" is a word used a LOT in RI. Its an adjective to mean 'very'. Maybe other states use it too, but all my life, I have heard of things being "wicked this" or "wicked that" with a RI accent. I have noticed that everytime Shaws puts the Colosal crab legs on sale, there is a little circle over the picture that says "wicked large". It seems like such an unprofessional adjective for a store a... I think its meant to be funny.

... is this a RI thing? Since that crab is going on sale starting fri 13, check your ads... cos I really want to know!

LOL Even my 5 year old says 'That's wicked cool' here in NH. It's just a natural part of our vocabulary up here.

Northern maine here and i always said wicked. since moving to maryland and then florida i've been made fun of a lot for it but its just so natural to use when i speak. Tim Sample, a maine comedian, is known for making "wicked" well known.

Yep, it's definitely a NE thing - when I visited Boston a while back (from GA), I was blown away by the accents and vice versa and "wicked" was the one word that got me as I had only known it in the traditional meaning - bad, mean, evil, etc...

As a Southerner, I would probably saved that ad and brought it home with me to show to all my friends - to me that is a bit wild. Not in a bad way, don't get me wrong.

Yes, it sure is a common phrase in NE :).
Wicked awesome!!
That is so funny that they are using it to describe the size of the crab legs in the ads.

Used 'wicked' all the time growing up in Mass. Still do, actually, lol! On a trip to Ireland, some California girls kept picking on me and my sister for saying 'wicked awesome' and stuff like that.

When my sister moved (which she's done a lot) that is the one word that outed her. Most people couldn't figure out where she was from b/c she didn't seem to have an accent. Then she would say "wicked" this or "wicked" that...

It is definately a NE thing. I do think it is odd to put that in the ad. It's probably not professional, but they are probably trying to keep the regionality (if that's a word) going. You know, give Shaw's a more hometown feel so you'll want to shop there. Clever marketing maybe!
