Maybe their children are in a competition to raise the most or if you get this many box tops you get a prize.
If you have coupons you aren't going to use you may as well trade them for something your schools can use.
I am just curious...I am saving my BTFE because I see alot of gals paying good money for these. What do you use them for? I know you can donate them to the schools, but what do they go for and does it really help? If they're only worth .10 each, it would take tons and tons to do a playground, etc....just wanting to understand :)
If it isn't free.....it isn't for me!

For whatever reason, I think it's great they are not going to go to waste either way. Now that my kids are long grown and out of school, after years of saving them and sending them to school - it's a habit to take them off the products
So I save them and usually have given them to neighbors kids periodically who I know take them to their schools.
But I think once in a while I'll trade them for coupons - as long as they're being used I think it's worthwhile.![]()
Coupons are found money - who walks by money on the ground??
Saving money ~ it's a way of life, not an attitude
I agree with OP and others here about trading coupons for them. But what I don't understand is why people actually will pay .05 each for them. Why not just donate the money to the school and be done with it, a lot less postage flying around.

I will speak to the playground,
since that is my pet project.
As the BTFE coordinator for the local elementary school, if each of our almost 400 students beings in 10 boxtops,
that adds up to $400.00 dollars for the school to use as it wishes.
The playground is a multi-year, multi-event fundraising effort.
We also participate in magazine sales, (2 years of ALL YOU for $20), pizza sales, t shirt sales, Christmas in July and other efforts.
So I for one collect BTFEs and enjoy it.
However, I am not one who will pay 10 cents (it's 'value') for a Box Top. If someone wants to just spend dollar for dollar, just give a flat donation to your school and save the postage![]()
cori n wes mom great info. Thanks

OK the contest thing etc makes sense. When I started saving I looked to see what schools here were participating..there was 1, and it said it had 0 collected, so I just thought...wow, If I save for a year and send them in, they will get a whole $5. But if there is a class wide competition then I could see it would add up. I guess .05 each is cheaper than buying a bunch of BC items to get the pts.

When our 14 year old was in elementary school, they had competitions every month. The classroom who brought in the most BTFE got a pizza party, or something. I traded like crazy to help them out then! Now, I just trade them to other people who are trying to help their schools. I get some coupons I need, and their schools get the equipment they need.
