Default Update within! - Peoria, IL Schnucks refused to double my Qs

My Schnucks has typically been a great place to use Qs, even IPs...until yesterday.

I went to purchase a number of things, including Chex Mix & GG Steamers which were on sale for $1.00. Of course, I had my IP for .50/1 for these. :) Doubling these has never been a problem, until yesterday.

The cashier scanned the coupon and then noticed the "DND or Triple" at the top. She called over a supervisor who showed her how to prevent the coupon from doubling! (The coupon automatically doubled when scanned...not a "9" beginning)
When I argued that this store's policy is to double coupons .50 & lower, she said, "but we can't do these".
So, they double...except when they don't? Sounds like bait-and-switch or at least false advertising to me!
I asked the cashier to remove these items from my order. This took way too long and I was already late for another appointment. Finally just canceled the whole order and left.
Last night I wrote a letter to send to the Mgr, DM & Corporate explaining my frustrating situation and my dislike of their false advertising. If I hadn't left the darn thing at home on the flash drive, I'd be sending it right now. Grrr....

Anybody know if Schnucks has officially changed their policy to refusing to double these kinds of Qs? Mind you, the Q DID double until the cashier messed with the register.

I posted a letter of complaint to the corporate website and received a phone call from Schnucks' Consumer Affairs the same day I sent the complaint. Kudos for prompt response!

The gentleman I spoke with was very understanding and eager to help. He supposed that the clerks who waited on me were overzealous and probably shouldn't have canceled my doubling coupons, but since he wasn't 100%, he wanted to check around internally and call me back with a definitive answer.

Between that call and today, I went to Schnucks again and used the same kind of coupon with no issues. Picked a young clerk. :)

Today, the same Consumer affairs gentleman called me back with a firm answer. The original clerks were wrong to cancel my doubles. Bad, bad, bad! (My words).
If it doubles in the register, they should not "un-double" it. (Paraphrase of his words.)

He said they'd be informing my store to make sure their clerks were trained properly and that I could call him if I had any more difficulties.

So, yay! Doubles for us! Brett from Consumer Affairs said so!

Mmmmm....More Steamers & Chex Mix for free!

wow i am sorry you had a problem...i have been there all week getting the chex, nestle chips, and the method(what i had ip's for) and havent had a problem at all....
glad you got it worked out!!

i finally figured out where they were hiding the steamers! was going to go this morning but it will have to wait til dh gets home so the sick kids can stay with him

Yeah, I've learned to check the floor chest freezers when the veggies go on sale. Sometimes they have them in there, other times not.

So...have YOU been buying all the Cheddar flavored Chex Mix? I've been in the store 3 times hoping to get that flavor! :) Guess I'll have to get a raincheck. :)

The only issue I had was the last time I went to get steamers .I had 3 ip coupons and picked out 2 corn and 1 mixed .
The first 2 coupons scanned the last one kept beeping .
Finally she pushed it through but then she was like maybe we aren't suppose to double more than 2 .
This is the first time i have had this issue so has anyone else had this problem ?

no wasnt me. i got 4 of the regualar and 6 of the honey nut

i have been told that we can only use 2 of each ip and then no more than 5 "free" with coupon per order....i follow that just because it is easy for me to remember lol! and the smartsource coupons will never scan and if they do they beep for me...dont know why

I wouldn't let them get away with telling you that... It's not in the coupon policy that's taped up at the check-out area.
Pretty sure the policy says:
"No IP coupons for FREE product." This does NOT mean "a coupon that makes the product free after doubling" - it means a coupon that says "good for one FREE _____" (these are usually fraudulent).
Policy says other stuff too, but it's not pertinent to my point.

I don't remember any sort of coupon # limit for any kind of coupon (IP or not, value etc) If it's not stated on that policy, then they shouldn't be able to limit you.

The guy I talked to in Consumer Affairs never asked me what kind or how many coupons I was using and never mentioned any kind of policy on limits.
When I went in a few days ago to get my Steamers, I used 8-9 IPs (in 1 trans) on them - no problems. Again, I picked a young cashier, they tend to be less nit-picky. :) (For the record, I have access to multiple computers.)

Lurkergirl & MotherofMolly, I'm assuming you're both shopping the Peoria store (& not Pekin)?

I'll try to read the coupon policy again next time I'm in there just to make sure it says what I'm recalling.

Well I had emailed them a while back about coupons this is what they wrote back to me .

There is a limit of 15 coupons doubled per order

the man who wrote me back was a Gilbert Tiemann
from consumer affairs for Schnucks
